"What a crazy weekend for me: I won two races in one weekend (Friday, our 2017 champion was declared the winner of the Portimao event, Editor’s note!), Which is a first in the championship of Supersport world! I also got to Losail fifth in the championship, but I’m coming home second. Pole position, new circuit record and race victory: it’s a perfect way to end the season, so I’m really happy. Congratulations to Sandro on his world championship victory and congratulations to Jules who had no choice but to attack for victory today if he wanted to win the title. Thanks to Yamaha and my team from have helped me make my dream come true for the past two years. We are now going home to start winter training, so we can be ready for next season. ".

"I’m speechless! I’m so happy and want to enjoy this moment. I have to say thank you to my team, they helped me up after such a difficult winter, I had no handlebars and they have believed in me. I think we have done the maximum this season, we have given everything all year and the people on my team are wonderful. A big thank you to my family, they helped me through the tough times and i can’t wait to get home! "

Federico Caricasulo (Yamaha n ° 64), 3rd:

"This weekend was difficult because from the first session, I was missing about a second per lap. During the race, I felt much better in sector 3 where I was wasting all my time before: I was therefore much more My start was not very good and I ended up in 11th in the first corner. But I managed to attack to come back up. The three guys ahead of me towards the end had a bit too much lead for that. I can catch up with them, but I’m happy to have finished the last race of the season on the podium, after a weekend that started very hard for me. Congratulations to Sandro on the championship and thank you to my team for their work hard work and dedication this season ".

Randy Krummenacher (Yamaha n ° 21), 5th:

“My second season in Supersport 600 is coming to an end. It’s a category that I really enjoy and in which I will compete again next year, staying with Team Bardahl Evan Bros. It was our first year on the Yamaha, a motorcycle with great potential and with which we have gained a lot of experience. Today’s race was difficult, the track was dirty and wet in some places and I tried to make the most of it. ‘a difficult situation, especially my 11th place on the grid. We learned a lot during this race and I think we have taken another step forward I was unfortunately penalized by the CAS decision concerning Mahias. I haven’t understood the reasoning yet, but if things had stayed as they were after Portimao, I would have finished with the bronze medal overall. I have no regrets anyway, I can’t wait for next season to start. The team and I will start with more experience. e and that will help us. I want to thank my team for their hard work, my sponsors for giving me the chance to participate in such a high level championship and, last but not least, my family who always support me at home and on the track ".

Corentin Perolari (Yamaha n ° 24), 6th:

"It’s a shame that my tires started to slide so hard after a few laps. I lost some ground but I’m really happy to have been able to pick up at the end of the race, the pace that I ‘had at the start. I’m going to learn how to handle this for next year. I’m so happy to be here, to know that GMT94 trusts me. I feel good on my bike, good with my team still close to me, and I will give everything this winter to be competitive and win races in 2019 ".

Jules Cluzel (Yamaha n ° 16), fall (s) and retirement:

To win the title, Jules had to score five points more than Cortese. To put it simply, he had to win this last round in Qatar. Hence the intense battle between Sandro and him for first place during most of the race … until Mahias, wisely behind, realized that he had a better pace than the two contenders for the throne.

The 2017 champion easily got rid of the two leaders of the 2018 classification. Under these conditions, even ahead of Cortese at the finish line, Cluzel could no longer claim the world crown … No doubt frustrated by the turn of events , "Julo" fell on turn # 7 on the last lap trying to keep the pressure on his rival # 11.

With the energy of despair, Jules got up from his fall (loss of the front without too much material consequence) and set off again to assault a handful of points. After all, Cortese was not immune to making a mistake in the very last bends, some of which were interspersed with gullies. !

Unfortunately, it was our n ° 16 who was surprised by a puddle that was deeper than the others: without traction control (that’s the rule!), His R6 went into a big high-side. Final assessment for poor Cluzel: zero points scored in Qatar, a third place in the championship … and a foot injury to heal this winter.
