24 Heures Moto 2012: the Starteam won in Superstock !

The n ° 67 Starteam Suzuki, disqualified for ” non-compliance with technical regulations ” at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Moto, has just been restored by the FIM to its first place in the Superstock category. The team manager’s explanations.

Moments after having climbed the top step of the Supertock podium, the crew of the n ° 67 GSX-R1000 had experienced a painful disillusion: "our motorcycle was downgraded following the observation of a non-compliant mudguard assembly, considered too flexible", wrote the pilot Claude Lucas the day after the event on the official website of the Starteam…

"I do not dispute the point of settlement, but this set-up, identical since the Bol, the 8H Doha in Qatar and the 8H Oschersleben in Germany, was approved and modified at the Bol d’Or according to the directives of the scrutineers ( which are the same as in Le Mans)"he was indignant.

24 hours of racing, two and a half months of waiting…

"I don’t see how everything becomes different after the finish of the race and I am obviously very disappointed with this decision which I find unfair. In our specific case, we change the rear wheel all the time at the same time as the front wheel, and it takes a lot longer to change the rear wheel. Basically we won nothing at all…"Claude continued.

"There you have it, if an article has to pass, it would be cool to clarify that we did not put special camshafts or quick assemblies or anything else prohibited by the regulations, but although the scrutineers us downgraded for a fixture they approved at the Bol d’Or", he concluded, not without launching in parallel an appeal procedure with the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM).

"The FIM has received our call", tells us today the team manager Sebastien Dudt:"we were summoned and the FIM could see that there had been no cheating, no intention". In the end, Claude Lucas, Jonathan Hardt and Kevin Longearet get six minutes penalties…

"With our five laps ahead (on the BMW n ° 13, Editor’s note), we are therefore declared Winner of the 24H Moto du Mans 2012 (in Superstock, NDLR) and therefore 3rd in the 2012 Endurance World Cup. Champagne !", exclaims the Petersbach team on its Facebook page.

"As far as our team is concerned, it is very good news that the FIM has made this decision, a decision that is fair to everyone.", Sebastien Dudt confides to Site:"it allows to re-mobilize the whole team in order to start again for 2013.
