Honda Racing won its first victory at the 8H Oschersleben on Saturday, ahead of Yamaha Racing GMT 94 Michelin and Bolliger Team Switzerland, which is second in the provisional standings of the world championship behind the Yamaha of GMT 94. The Kawasaki SRC n ° 11, on the other hand, had to settle for 10th place (7th EWC) following a fall at the very start of the race, but occupies 3rd place in the provisional.
"We will do everything to win at Le Mans, the championship is not over yet!"
The No. 1 SERT Suzuki also made a mistake in the first lap. Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Erwan Nigon still finished 6th (4th EWC) ahead of Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers and Monster Energy Yamaha YART, while Flembbo Leader Team, National Motos and Motobox Kremer by Shell Advance completed the Top 10 in EWC.
Riding the British Honda Racing which finally holds its first victory, the French riders Julien da Costa, Sebastien Gimbert and Freddy Foray were able to withstand the pressure imposed from the start by David Checa, Kenny Foray and Mathieu Gines on the Yamaha Racing GMT 94 Michelin, delayed by a fall at the end of the race but which consolidates its first place in the championship with 21 points.
The Honda Boys, 4th in the provisional classification of the world championship ahead of SERT, also dominated the “big” green men of the Swiss team, Horst Saiger, Roman Stamm and Daniel Sutter, 2nd in the provisional.
"The season has been difficult for the team, so this victory is good for everyone", rejoices Julien da Costa: "after the problems at the Bol d’Or and Suzuka, we deserved to win and we tackle Le Mans very positively ".
"We had worked very hard since the start of the year and it hadn’t paid off until now," said Freddy Foray: "the race was difficult because of the rain, which started to fall when I was on the bike so I had no luck, but now it doesn’t matter anymore ".
For his part, Sebastien Gimbert is also "happy, especially for the mechanics: I have two of the best riders with me, I have the best team and the best bike and we finally got the victory we deserved after all our problems. We will do everything to win at Le Mans and the championship is not over yet! "
"I’m sorry for the team"
Second to two laps for the Honda but still leader in the provisional, the GMT 94 "arrived in Germany with a 7 point lead in the world championship and we are leaving with a capital of 21 points", points out Christophe Guyot: "we thus consolidate our position before the final which will be played at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. All the ingredients, including the rain, have been combined to make this race intense and full of emotions. A race for drivers who had to give everything from start to finish . A race for mechanics without whom the podium was impossible. The Oschersleben circuit has always been a success for us. Each time we appreciate the exceptional welcome, the passion and the friendship that Germany brings to endurance racing "..
"I’m delighted, we had a great race!" Exclaimed David Checa, saying that "the team’s strategy has paid off at all levels and I am really happy to be here at Oschersleben!"
"I’m sorry for the team", regrets Mathieu Gines, victim of a fall on the handlebars of Yamaha n ° 94: "when I caught up with the safety car on the descent, there was a trace of oil or coolant that I hadn’t spotted on the previous lap and lost the front end on entering the turn. I’m extremely disappointed to have dropped the bike, but what satisfaction to have recovered that second square !"
As for Kenny Foray, he admits that "the last two stints were really hard because I had to push all the time. I knew that Christophe was behind the backboard to put me aside and that each lap had to be I gain seconds. And when 5 laps before the end he put me "P2 OK" it became easier ".
"The goal is a fifth consecutive victory at Le Mans"
Finally, if the disappointment is great for the Kawasaki SRC team which has been concentrating attention since the announcement of its sound, now is not the time for pessimism. "Of course it was not the result I was hoping for, but it is endurance and to be honest, I prefer to have known that here rather than at Le Mans," says Gilles Stafler who thanks his drivers and his team for their efforts: "when you’re used to winning, it’s really hard to stay motivated just to score points, but that’s how it works and tomorrow is another day".
"The 24 Hours of Le Mans will be the most important race for us this year and the aim is to set a new record with a fifth consecutive victory. If we failed here at Oschersleben you can be sure that we will double down. efforts at Le Mans to achieve this result! "
In Superstock, the Penz13.com team (Pedro Vallcaneras, Bastien Mackels and Markus Reiterberger), 4th scratch, won ahead of the Qatar Endurance Racing Team (Anthony West, Alex Cudlin and Mashel Al Naimi) and the Junior Team LMS Suzuki (Baptiste Guittet, Etienne Masson and Gregg Black), who retains his place at the top of the provisional Superstock ranking.
Note also the disqualification of BMW from MSD-Steeldesign for "dilution of glycol in its coolant while the regulations require the use of water". In the Yamaha n ° 7 Monster Energy, the fall of Broc Parkes while battling in the top three during the first two hours of the race shattered the hopes of the Austrian team. Ditto for the Suzuki of Team R2CL following a crash at the end of the race, while that of the Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences caused mechanical problems which forced it to retire and to see its second place in the standings fly away. provisional Superstock.
Next meeting in less than a month for them: stay connected !
