C600Sport, Integra or Tmax 530: which scooter for bikers ?
This year, the Tmax will be the best-selling large cube in France, ahead of the Z750! Two big rivals of Yamaha in France react: frontal opposition for BMW and its C 600 Sport, more circuitous way at Honda with the Integra. Comparo maxiscoots !
And size differences !
Unfortunately for the Integra, the first meters turn against it: the drivers’ knees – not necessarily very large – butt against the apron and lower down, the toes of the feet collide with the more abrupt fairing than on the Tmax and C600Sport, in because of the "big" 17 inch wheels.
Another negative point of the Honda: the steering angles much less good than those of its competitors and which can lengthen the time of maneuvers at a standstill. On this "radius", the Tmax is imposed by ten centimeters on the C 600 Sport.
However, some bikers will find the Honda’s driving position more to their liking than those of the other two maxiscoots: straight bust and calves tight against the central bridge, we see the Integra almost like a motorcycle. In addition, the saddle posted at 790 mm (it is the lowest) will appeal to the shortest on legs.
The attitude is intuitively more relaxed on the Tmax. Feet thrown forward – which is impossible on the Integra – and hands resting nonchalantly on the lower handlebars, it almost feels like a custom. But beware of the first gas shots and speed bumps: the backrest is protruding and hard !
Legroom is even bigger on the C600Sport, its more pleasant backrest and its thicker and wider saddle offers the best fit. Also higher, this last limit as much access to the ground: the small sizes should be wary, especially as the Behème is the heaviest of the three machines. !
BMW C 600 … Comfort and very strong !
The BMW is therefore quickly more comfortable than its two rivals. The observation is repeated on the expressway where the windshield of the C600, once raised to the maximum, completely isolates the pilot from the wind. There is only beyond 140 km / h "counter" that a too frank push in the back inconvenient a little. Fortunately, French highways are limited to 130 !
The Bavarian scooter is also the quickest to reach this speed limit of 130 km / h, as well as that of 90 km / h on the secondary network. From the past 40 km / h, the "650" benefits from a phenomenal lengthening. The "530" or "700" are not the size to resist !
The only regret of the BMW pilot seeing his comrades appear in the mirrors concerns the engine sound: more melodious, it would have completed his happiness! But even bundled up with an Akrapovic silencer (617 €), our C 600 Sport could not cover the too present noise of the mechanics of the mill, designed by BMW and produced by Kymco.
In comparison, the original Yamaha soundtrack is much more catchy, so much so that you have to refrain from putting unnecessary gas shots at red lights when you are on the Tmax! More discreet, the Integra is not unpleasant to listen to either … unlike you-know-who.
When the green light appears, the Tmax is the first to draw and stands just in front of the C 600 Sport between 0 and 30 km / h while the Integra takes a little longer to take off. Very quickly however, the Behème takes the top – and moves away inexorably – while the Honda manages to go up on the Tmax !
Fair synchronization – even annoying! – Parisian traffic lights oblige, it is already time to brake. But it is on this specific aspect that the Honda scores its biggest points….
Honda Integra-al brake
Admittedly the Honda has a front brake disc of larger diameter than those of its competitors (320 mm against 270 mm approximately). But he only has one, precisely! We could therefore fear a lack of power or endurance on the part of the Honda system … But this is not the case.
The attack and force of the single front disc are quite sufficient to effectively stop the machine. Supported by an excellent ABS, the braking of the Integra is perfectly safe even on the greasy-wet cobbles of the capital. It is also more pleasant than the ABS of the two competitors, whose interventions we feel much more, at the lever as in terms of stopping distances….
On beautiful small roads, the Honda‘s right lever, which combines rear and front brakes, alone allows you to wind gently, avoiding too much change in the attitude of the scooter. This is a good point because the suspensions are a bit soft – but comfortable! – the Integra make him slightly nervous when taking or releasing the front brake (alone) on a curve.
In a more sporty register, the Tmax also benefits from impeccable braking: the frank attack of the front brake in no way hinders the dosage and you can tackle the bends as hard as the controls of a roadster. The only difference: the absence of a tank between the legs on the scoot ‘forces the legs to stiffen !
Passing on the C600Sport, we realize that braking requires more effort and concentration than on the Tmax. You have to both pull more on the levers to match the performance of the Yamaha, and always keep in mind the overweight of the BMW.
Lighter than these two playmates, the Tmax takes the advantage in the winding: much more agile and manoeuvrable than the BMW, the Yamaha does not lack stability and allows to cut the road more easily and more quickly. So much so that it is on this scooter that the ground clearance is reached the fastest !
If the C 600 Sport does not allow itself to be done in large, fast curves and goes back up as soon as the first stretch comes, the Tmax easily fills its fishing deficit at high speed thanks to its ability to brake a bit later, to chain the turns more quickly and come out more cleanly than the "big" Behème.
Yamaha Tmax to "Vmax"
The Integra, for its part, is less of an incentive to work around: in automatic D (Drive) mode, the engine wisely shuts down on 6th gear at 90 km / h! On the consumer side, the Honda wins the prize with an average over the entire test of 5 l / 100km, against 5.7 for the Yam ‘and 6.0 for the BMW.
At this pace – rather fast – the driver of the Integra can expect a maximum range of about 280 km, despite a small tank of 14.1 liters. Under the same conditions, the 15 liters of the Tmax allows a journey of 260 km, and the 16 liters of the BMW 270 km.
By engaging the Honda’s S (Sport) mode, the gears are pulled more and you take advantage of times that allow you to stay in contact with the two sports scooters, unless they suddenly decide to put the gas on the edge of a ferrule section for example !
In this case, the double clutch – fast and super smooth in town, but less responsive and quiet than a variator – takes a little time to lower both gears, as required by the handle screwed into the corner by the Honda païlote. ! This allows the two rivals to take a tangent. Well done however, the "NC700D" can cling to Tmax and C600Sport.
The 17-inch wheels and the driving position will also facilitate the adaptation of bikers to the universe – in full expansion! – maxicooters. This is where the major interest of this vehicle lies: for those who are attracted to maxiscooters, the Integra ensures a smooth transition, including at the price level. !
Very quickly, however, Integra users will notice that a real trunk, like that of the Tmax or the C 600 Sport, has its advantages in everyday life, as does the "slumped on the sofa" position that the 15-inch wheels allow. inch !
For these reasons, the Honda Integra cannot win this comparison, the goal of which, let us remember, is to find out which scooter will best suit bikers! It remains to decide between the Tmax and the C600Sport … which is not an easy task !
The Yamaha shines with its remarkable finish, its formidable versatility, its motorization / chassis devilishly efficient balance. But if the number 1 image of its manufacturer is rewarding, that of a scooter crossed on every street corner and stolen every minute somewhere in France – it’s an image! – is penalizing.
The BMW is more physical to take at low and high speeds, its finish and engine sound leave much to be desired. But it does not lack assets: well equipped, more comfortable and powerful, it scrupulously aligns its price on that of its target and represents a very interesting alternative to Yamaha’s bestseller..
At Site, the opinions finally lean more on the side of the Tmax. But it does not say that Yam ‘customers will not be tempted by the BMW, by dint of being taxed by the new C 600 Sport on the expressways leading to work! Cases to follow in the next MNC market reports !
