When we discover a Scrambler, we go around it. Like it or not, the aesthetic originality means that you don’t get on it right away. We look, we appreciate the curve of this tank, in this case tangerine color, delicately highlighted by brushed aluminum gills. We continue the tour with the double escapement superimposed on the right: it does not look like anything else, except maybe … a Scrambler! All this highlights the V72: sure, it catches the eye !
Contact
We go up. First surprise: it’s high! Even at six feet tall, you put your feet up of course, but the Scrambler is taller than it looks! The saddle is comfortable, the seat is well padded: we treat the posterior at Voxan! Contact. The injection starts up with a small whistle, the warning light goes out, the starter motor with a little gas – injection requires – and the V72 is heard, and especially felt! It vibrates, of course, but the vibrations are very pleasant. We take off. The clutch is quite manly, but precise, as is the box, firm and smooth at the same time. The handling at low speed is that of a trail, the bike is light but the weight is perched high, and beware if you are used to a roadster or a sports car, it would be quick to get on board !
But all this is very healthy, and we quickly understand the instructions for use, especially as the low weight quickly makes you forget the height of the beautiful … The height and width of the handlebars prevent squeezing into the holes mouse, but it is not as wide as with a real trail and the handling allows to compensate for the width in question.
Good vibrations
On the engine side, not only are the vibrations pleasant, but they propel so well that the front wheel has a hard time staying stuck to the asphalt if we pull the first reports! It grows at the bottom, in the middle, knowing that at the top it runs out of steam faster than a sports twin, which is normal given the more road trail than hypersport program…
Handlebars on silent-blocks
First surprise, when braking it feels like it’s … slack? However, it brakes indeed, and even rather strong, but we have a strange impression … Explanation: the handlebars are mounted on silent-blocks and it is good to know it to understand this feeling, not very pleasant if we don’t. is not warned. On the other hand, bite and power are there, and in a healthy and dosable way. Besides, if you insist, you can feel the rear leave the ground. The stunters will have understood that it can lift on command under acceleration and braking with complete peace of mind !
Virolos
Come on, we’re leaving the city: the program for this bike must be more virolos! Bingo, barely met the first laces, nothing in the retro! However, the bike is not mine, I am rather circumspect, but it must be recognized that it is so easy to go fast with that you prick yourself from the first turns of the wheel to brake late, angler hard and open early , which means forgetting everything that moves and that does not have the same balance! In addition, the suspensions make the exercise comfortable, absorbing the irregularities of the departmental roads of our gentle France while ensuring precise and safe heading! Small detail: you can nab the brakes on the angle without a second thought, the bike does not get up when braking from the front and rejoins the rope with serenity when braking from the rear, dosable and powerful. We want more! The gearbox is of rare precision and its smooth operation is exemplary with such precision.
Highway
Is it reasonable to talk about it? With such a tool, you have to be stupid or in a hell of a hurry to get pissed off on a road without bends, the favorite terrain of the Scrambler! No protection, arms spread on a large handlebars, this bike has nothing to do on the highway except in an emergency !
Duo
As a duo in the passes of the Alps, the bike was deemed comfortable by two different passengers. The seat is good, the grab handle well placed, but the larger of the two testers was hampered by the heat given off by the high pots.
BT 45
The original tires were not tested because my kind lender had fitted the beautiful Bridgestone BT45 which I did not manage to fault, whether on large, very fast curves (on the circuit, of course), small sequences, dry, wet or soaked, the marriage is good. It should be noted that the said owner is in the process of putting his Scrambler on wheels in a supermot way … As for maintenance, the revisions are made every 6000 km and are of the same ilk as those of Ducati. Consumption ranges between 5.5 and 8 liters over my 4000 km.
Rot-proof ?
In short, the bike brakes as well as a sports car: it is not therefore when entering a curve that it will rot. We take an angle with ease and precision: so it is not on a curve that we are going to spoil. The ubiquitous gniak of the V72 will propel you vigorously into the next bend, so it’s not out of bends that you’re going to be rotten. No, unless you are a pilot and not a simple driver, it is difficult to be as efficient on bumpy roads. The Multistrada or the TDM promise the same program: in more brutal, two valves oblige, for the Multistrada, and in more elastic for the TDM. In short, will love all those who want a fun motorcycle and are not (or more?) Pilots. Will hate all those who want a replica, given the absence of Voxan in competition, as well as all the pilots who prefer pure performance on the circuit, and the big rollers, the Scrambler being anything but a utility.
Practical aspects
Two U models are suitable under the saddle, but the location will have to be dressed to avoid chipping the paint. Fairly well supplied tool kit, also under the saddle. The rest ? A rag and / or rain pants under the saddle, the Scrambler is not a utility! Passenger or luggage? Choose, or torture the passenger with the backpack…
