The new BMW C 650 GT scooter, a little eclipsed from the front of the maxiscooters scene by its sporty brother C 600 Sport, has a lot to offer: hardly less sporty but more comfortable, the BMW C 650 GT is even worth a visit. ! Test.

BMW C 650 GT: the most relevant variation

From the same chassis / engine base, BMW has therefore produced two maxiscooters. However, if the C 600 Sport with its assertive sporting ambitions can leave the most demanding of sports engine enthusiasts hungry (read our), the C 650 GT on the contrary very pleasantly surprised us. !

Well, to be honest, it is not necessarily by its design that the C 650 GT began its business of seduction … Even if in situation, and no longer under the spot-lights of a living room, we do finally quite quickly to its plush line which is reminiscent of a certain R1200 RT: the rest is a matter of taste !

The large windshield and the large apron are quite massive but promise high level protection. Visually, the rear part is the most successful: although housing a large hold, it manages to remain rather thin and elegant, while the LED indicators integrated in the mirrors are the best effect..

As for the colors, in addition to the metallic bronze used during this test, future "BMW maxiscooters" will have the choice between a classic black or a very classy burgundy red, both metallic..

Clearly, BMW Motorrad France intends to sell more C 600 Sport than C 650 GT: 1,400 Sport will be imported into France in 2012 against 900 for the GT. However, the market could be very favorable to the success of the C 650 GT: in ten years of career, its direct competitor, the excellent but aging Suzuki Burgman 650, was thus satisfied to evolve in Executive version or to adopt a Winter Pack…

A redesign of the Suzuki is already scheduled, but not before 2013 (read). More recent and with solid arguments, the Honda SW-T600 (read) is also an adversary of choice. Especially since it is clearly more financially accessible: € 8,090 for the scooter with the winged coat of arms against € 11,450 for the new BMW !

Extremely close to the C 600 Sport in its design, the C 650 GT uses the same 647 cc twin cylinder which develops 60 hp at 7,500 rpm. The chassis is also identical with the inverted 40 mm fork, the single-sided swingarm connected to the visible horizontal mono-shock absorber and offset to the left. The final transmission by chain in oil bath – a "clean" system requiring little maintenance – is also common.

Finally, the two BMW scooters share the half-analog (speed) half-digital (hour, fuel gauge, tachometer, average consumption, outside temperature and remaining range) dashboard, as well as practical equipment such as the two vacuum -pockets including a 12 V socket and the parking brake paired with the side stand.

With this device, all you have to do is unfold the side when stationary for a specific caliper to block the rear disc: practical and ingenious, this automatic "handbrake" offers the use of a convenience that you get used to very quickly. !
