Honda CB500F test: the legend is back
Honda launched in 2013 three 500 cc models: a roadster, a sports car and a trail! First version to pass between the gloves of Site: the CB500F roadster which seeks to update the recipe for the glorious CB500 of the 90s. Test !
A ghost at Honda
Although the vagaries of the Spanish weather turned our driving schedule upside down, we still managed to report some positive impressions of the 2013 Honda 500 cc novelties opening on Site. !

The first test of the. As for the model – which has the same engine and the same chassis – we will have to wait a little longer. But first of all to the famous CB500 … F !
First, let’s go back 20 years: launched in Japan in 1993, the CB500 has become a must-have motorcycle for young drivers, couriers and other kilometer "eaters". Produced until 2003, the one that the specialists called the "PC 26" type then "PC 32" entered the legend thanks to its simplicity of manufacture, its reliability and its ease of control..
In 2004 appeared its replacement, the new CBF500 (read our). Alas, without being bad, the latter was too road and too heavy compared to the original concept of the economical and basic roadster. In 2013, therefore, Honda finally decided to reconnect with the past by launching the CB500F.
Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little luckier than others – already know that the 471 cc engine and the chassis are common to three machines: the CB500F, CBR500R and CB500X.
These three motorcycles are designed in exactly the same "mold" and it is little more than the bodywork and a few parts that set them apart. The "F" and the "R" also share many dimensions: total length, wheelbase, trail, saddle height, etc..
The prices differ slightly since the roadster will be offered at 5,590 euros while the sport will peak at 5,990 euros: "floor" prices which place them among the cheapest motorcycles over 125 cc on the market, "ABS as standard" please !
With its 35 kW of power (47.5 hp), the new CB500 has been designed to meet the standards of the new European license A2 (read our). No need to clamp the machine to benefit from it: it’s turnkey !
Yet, contrary to what one might think, "France and neighboring countries are not the core target of these CB500s", explains the Honda Moto press officer. They are intended above all for emerging countries, whose growing economy is promoting the development of this type of" big cube "motorcycles..
The CB500F is nonetheless full of charm and its little airs of CB1000R should seduce many French bikers: according to Honda, the age of its users would range between 20 and 50 years !
Male but also female, the typical customer would come from the 125 cc, or even the 250 cc, but could just as well be a traffic-weary motorist. It could also be a former "dormant" biker who wants to resume the handlebars after a few years of interruption.
In short, the profile is close to that of fans of the NC700, which Honda presents more as a complementary offer than as a direct competitor of the CB500. And yet, although the NC 700 claims a larger displacement, it delivers exactly the same power as the CB500..
So what is the NC700S’s little sister worth on the road? MNC braved the bad weather to answer you on the following pages…
