All Tests - Not reasonable ... but awfully good! - Funny time for a walk

200 hp for 472 kg: these Quebeckers are crazy! Daniel Campagna and his team succeeded in approving in our country, oh how fussy, a real ORNI (Unidentified Rolling Object): the T-Rex. Special Christmas test, between two snowfalls !

Funny time for a walk

To be honest, I can only blame myself! It was I who suggested to our adored chef a slightly offbeat and funny essay for Christmas … It’s clever: this is how I find myself, this morning when it is several degrees below 0 ° C , driving a real bomb !

A steering wheel, on Moto-Net ?! Sacrilege, heresy, you will tell me? No, rest assured: with this Campagna T-Rex, the biker is far from uncharted territory. The machine is largely as demanding as a sports motorbike and it is about as well – bad – protected…

In addition, if the bow of the T-Rex more resembles that of a single-seater, its stern comes directly from the motorcycle. Indeed, there is a single wheel – square either – supported by a swinging arm and driven by a chain and above all … the engine and the two exhaust outlets of the Kawasaki ZZR 1400 !

1/3 car, 1/3 motorcycle, 1/3 karting

This ORNI with an incredible weight / power ratio (472 kg dry for 200 hp) is approved on the open road! It can be driven with a car license and does not require a helmet to be worn. However, in the absence of a windshield, the helmet is strongly recommended … especially in -3 ° !

But if the use on the public highway is completely legal, it is difficult to make the T-Rex a machine for everyday life … Nor very discreet – especially in this Site color! – nor very practical, the most obtuse will even blame it on the defects of cars and motorcycles, without enjoying their advantages.

Indeed, you endure bad weather like on a motorcycle and you are stuck in traffic jams like a car … But whatever, it’s like criticizing a Formula 1 for not having a car radio !

The genesis of the monster

The idea of creating this T-Rex is not new. Daniel Campagna, its brilliant creator, has been working on this project for more than twenty years. A former driver and mechanic in auto racing, he wanted to create a machine capable of reproducing the sensations and performance of a single-seater on the road..

Fan of the legendary Colin Chapman, designer of the Lotus Super Seven, the Quebecer understood that the hunt for weight is the most important criterion! Hence the idea of designing an ultralight three-wheeler using motorcycle mechanics.

The first T-Rex "proudly designed in Quebec"was therefore marketed in 1995 with a Suzuki GSX-R 1100 engine. Daniel Campagna has been faithful to Kawasaki mechanics since 1999. He first used the block of the ZZR 1100, then that of the 1200 and finally , since 2007, the 4-cylinder of the ZZR 1400 and its some 200 hp in dynamics (thanks to the forced air intake Ram Air).
