Duel CB650F Vs MT-07: the traditional Honda 4-legged against the sensational CP2 Yamaha
Attacked from all sides, the Yamaha MT-07 remains the benchmark for mid-capacity roadsters. In 2017, Honda continues to oppose its CB650F, revised on the occasion of the switch to Euro4. Can the 4-legged roadster beat the CP2 twin ? Answer in this new MNC duel !
Duel CB650F Vs MT-07 page 1 – Two mid-size roadsters, two philosophies
Three years ago, Site opposed the brand new to the two other "mid-size" roadsters on the market still equipped with 4-cylinders: the good – but – old and the angry but comfortable, which had also emerged as a winner from this comparo MNC.
- MNC comparative test of June 27, 2014 :
In 2017, Honda returned to the charge and became the only major motorcycle brand to offer a medium-displacement "4-legged": unlike its two previous rivals, the CB650F remains in the catalog thanks to its engine now compliant with the standard. Euro4 and paradoxically more efficient !
Unveiled in November 2016 in – and in! -, the new Honda 2017 indeed develops 91 horsepower and 64 Nm, i.e. 4 hp and 1 Nm more than the previous version … but also for the record, 11 hp less than the "CB600F" Hornet (63.5 Nm ).
Now more powerful, the CB650F is also louder: mechanical modifications to the watermill do give it a deeper tone. Listening to him in neutral, we would gladly give him a hundred cubic centimeters more.
- Live MNC Smart-Video :
In addition to the update of its "big six-and-a-half", the winged roadster gets a slight facelift, gets a new fork, adopts LED lighting, redesigns its handlebars and saddle and rides clever valves bent on its rims … So many tricks that must turn heads and sign checks !
In 2016, had been seduced by the first version of the CB650F. In the classification of medium-displacement roadsters, it thus obtained fourth place, very far behind the two "old" and (respectively 2926 and 3740 immats), and further from the reference Yamaha MT-07 (4691).
Can the new Honda land a podium this year? It will be hard. For a first reason: the Honda shuns the A2 category! Although it remains below the threshold of 95 hp and therefore remains eligible for clamping for new licenses, the CB650F will no longer be marketed in a 35 kW (47.5 hp) version..
In the Honda family, it is the or with their wise twin who are responsible for the training of future "Firebladers", "Goldwingers" or "Africa Twiners"! Suzuki leads the same policy: since the disappearance of the Bandit, only the and its twin can put the boot on the footrest of young bikers – and old beginners…
But unlike the Tokyo Reds, the Hamamatsu Yellows have not stopped boosting their 4-cylinder roadster intended for holders of the "short" A license: the which this year replaces the spit no less than 114 horsepower and has a sports cycle part.
For its part, Honda once again says "no to inflation" and only slightly muscle its CB650F. Site therefore did not see much interest in opposing the new "Cebe" to its congener "Gexesse". Rather, we put it in the – four – legged, the benchmark of medium displacement roadsters in France, signed Yamaha.
Among the Blues of Iwata, the XJ6 quickly ceded its entry-level place to an original MT-07, significantly more efficient on roads as in dealerships … As we have seen, the twin cylinder "Yam-miam "and its" ultra light is right "cycle part largely dominate the French market.
Even at the start of the year, yet marked by the release of the brand new and very inspired – the Yamaha! -, the MT and its 689 cc CP2 (74.8 hp and 68 Nm) continue to be preferred by our fellow citizens. However, this only half surprises MNC readers: the Yamaha won our recent one by a short head … But this time the MT-07 is opposed to a completely different opponent..
- MNC duel of March 9, 2017 :
Unchanged since its glorious release in 2014, the Yamaha has nevertheless seen its price move in three years … and in the wrong direction for customers: placed at 5,699 € (ABS +400 euros) in order to better sound the competition, it is today increased to € 6,999 (ABS included because compulsory). Yes, for the same motorcycle !
Opposite, the CB650F seems expensive. Too expensive. This is why, under its official "turnkey" price of € 7899, the Honda France site displays a "recommended promotion" price of € 7,199, in effect for two months "within the limits of available stocks". So, should you jump on this promo CB650F or choose a full pot MT-07? The answer on the following pages !
