Cal Crutchlow, Honda-LCR (3rd in qualifying and 3rd in race) : "First of all I would like to congratulate Maverick and Valentino. It’s fantastic to be back on the podium after what happened in Qatar. “When Maverick passed me I tried to keep my distance but Valentino closed the gap … I tried to insist, then these witnesses reappeared and forced me to slow down. the season with a podium is excellent. The last time I finished a race, I was also on the podium! "
Site analysis: Cal Crutchlow returns to the podium for the first time since his splendid late last season, despite the vagaries of his private RCV dashboard. A good way to erase the last three races, all ended in the gravel since his success at Phillip Island !
As often when he shines, the 32-year-old Briton also enjoys the luxury of being the first Honda rider to arrive, in front of the official HRC machines. Nothing more "easy" this time, since Marquez and Pedrosa self-eliminated a few laps apart in Argentina, which is more in the same turn! This curve – n ° 2 – is quite bumpy at the point of braking, so to negotiate with finesse…
For the Honda-LCR rider, the fall of the Honda leader is also quite simple to explain: "Marc fell because he attacked too hard from the start", analyzes the native of Coventry, while Marquez ensures to his side does not understand his fall … Crutchlow for his part believes that the Honda did not immediately print such a fast pace on the very abrasive asphalt of the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.
“The Honda is a physical motorcycle,” Crutchlow recalls. In addition to this particularity, the RCV places great demands on the front end because its pilots seek to regain under braking what they have lost during acceleration, because of its electronics which can still be improved in this area. The choice of Crutchlow, Marquez and Pedrosa to start with a hard front tire – while their rivals were in medium – underlines this demanding character of the front end of the RCV.
Except that with a hard tire in front, the Honda representatives have to take tweezers, especially during the first laps: it is this lack of precautions which would be at the origin of the fall of Marquez according to Crutchlow, who for his part preferred stay on a "cautious" pace at the start of the race. However later, the n ° 35 gave everything to defend his second place against Rossi, in vain: the Doctor caps him at the post, with a small second on the line. !
Rossi makes his move! He’s up into second past Crutchlow…
The hunt for Viñales begins … can he catch him?

This fine third place allows Cal Crutchlow to partly catch up with his: the Briton is in 5th place in the provisional classification, tied with the excellent beginner Jonas Folger! Better still: the resident of the LCR team is the first Honda rider of the provisional in front of the private RCV of Jack Miller (7th with 15 points), since Marquez and Pedrosa are respectively 8th and 10th !
