Catalan GP: Ramirez’s first Moto3 success and Marquez’s hat-trick in Moto2
Marcos Ramirez’s first victory this weekend at the Catalan GP brings to twelve the number of different riders who have won successively in Moto3! At the same time, Alex Marquez is making a name for himself on the very fast Triumph-powered Moto2s. Decryption.
If the main question in MotoGP is who of "Marc" or "Marquez" will win it – especially since his teammate! -, the lower categories preserve more suspense, in particular the very competitive Moto3 class.

An incredible statistic illustrates this lack of domination: no less than twelve drivers have succeeded on the highest step of the podium since the GP of Thailand – won last fall by Fabio Di Giannantonio – and the GP of Catalonia – won by Marcos Ramirez this week-end. Either a different winner per race for more than half a season !
Born on December 16, 1997 in Conil de la Frontera (Spain), Marcos Ramirez won his first victory in the world championship where he started with a wild card at KTM in 2014, before completing his first full season on a Mahindra two years later (19th overall in 2016).
Ramirez then moved to KTM with whom he signed two podiums per season and finished 8th and 10th in 2017 and 2018, then joined the Leopard Racing team for 2019. Winning bet for n ° 42, since he achieved success after seven races on the Honda Moto3 !
This first victory was won after a hard fight after a Catalan Grand Prix during which no less than nine drivers took turns taking the lead. The race was also marked by numerous crashes, including a huge crash involving five motorcycles…
An incident at turn 4 in the race saw three riders go down!
Not just that, a separate incident moments later at the same turn saw two more join them in the gravel!

The other twist concerns the former leader of the championship, Lorenzo Dalla Porta, forced to give up due to a mechanical problem with his Honda while he was leading the debates! The slaughter will continue with the successive withdrawals of Migno, Arbolino, Masia, Masabi, Yurchenko, Rodrigo, Binder then Toba !
In total, twelve drivers did not see the arrival of this Catalan Grand Prix: a real race by elimination, at the end of which Marcos Ramirez managed to keep the experienced Aron Canet at a short distance: 0.119 sec separate his Honda KTM at the finish line. Phew !
- MNC of April 19, 2019 : First victory for Max Biaggi’s Moto3 team
Canet – aligned in the – carries out for his part an excellent operation in the championship: here he is now leading the provisional with 23 points ahead of the unfortunate Dalla Porta (103 against 80), author of two consecutive second places before his abandonment on broken.
Niccolo Antonelli is currently third with 28 points behind the Spanish leader, ahead of Celestino Vieti and Jaume Massia.
Alex Marquez triples his Moto2 stake
He is also a Marquez who is currently talking about him in the intermediate category: Alex, younger brother of "who you know", won in Barcelona his third victory in a row on his Moto2 Kalex. The n ° 73 had never signed a hat-trick since its debut in 2012.
The Spanish rider – in contact – took the opportunity to take the lead in the Moto2 championship with seven points ahead of Tom Luthi. Lorenzo Baldassari, former leader in the provisional, goes down to 4th place following his fall during this GP of Catalonia.
- MNC of May 24, 2019 : Petrucci, Miller and Alex Marquez are on two motorcycles…
- Qatar GP 2019 : Toba "Japanese" Moto3, Baldassari "Triumph" in Moto2
The previous race, in Italy, was marked by the unprecedented crossing of the 300 km / h mark: 300.6 km / h reached by Nicolo Bulega! This great first in Moto2 is to the credit of the "3-legged" Triumph of 765 cc which replaces 4-cylinder Honda of 600 cc.
