Catalan MotoGP GP – Jorge Lorenzo (1st): "I got there … and how!"
Jorge Lorenzo has never stopped winning with Ducati since the announcement of his arrival at Honda-Repsol in 2019! The Mallorcan won his second consecutive race in Catalonia after his success in Italy, signing his first double since 2016. Statements and analysis MNC.
Jorge Lorenzo, Ducati (1st in qualifying and 1st in race) : "It’s incredible and it shows how things can change very quickly in this sport. Two months ago, if I had been told that I would win two races in a row with this bike, that would would have seemed impossible. And yet I got there … and in what a way! I never let go, I always said that I kind of needed to put "all the pieces" together to be competitive on this Ducati. And what makes me most proud is to show that you can shine with this bike by having a very fluid riding style ".

"Anything can happen in the championship, especially at this stage of the season because the gaps are narrowing. From one track to another, things change dramatically. We are now heading to Assen, a track that at first glance is suitable less on our bike. But on the other hand, we’re having a very good period. Our bike has never been so competitive. So we have to stay focused and not make mistakes. And then failing to play for victory , we will have to try to finish on the podium ".
Site analysis: Who of Lorenzo or Ducati will most bitterly regret their divorce at the end of the season? The Mallorcan rider, who leaves the Italian motorcycle to slip away on the official Honda at the very moment when success finally smiles on him with the Reds? While his two straight wins in Italy and Catalonia – from pole position at Montmelo – suggest that the world title with Ducati could have come true in the future ?
Because Jorge Lorenzo is aware of it: his chances of crowning the crown this year with his 49 points behind Marquez are slim, even if he maintains his impressive pace. "Lorenzo-show" has indeed moved from 20th position in Jerez (Spain) with six small points registered in 7th place four races later in Catalonia with 66 points, tied with his teammate Andrea Dovizioso !
At the end of the season, the Mallorcan may have some regrets about leaving for Honda, insofar as he could have confirmed next year on the Ducati … On condition of course to continue to win on his handlebars, which remains to be demonstrated on circuits less favorable to the powerful V4 from Borgo Panigale. In this, the next race in the Netherlands on July 1 will be revealing.
At this point – although it’s very easy to say today! -, the separation "Lorenzo-Ducati" turns more to the detriment of the Italian manufacturer, who could be criticized for not having been able to retain the proud three-time MotoGP world champion by giving him all the desired importance.
Not sure that the likeable Danilo Petrucci will perform well enough next year to beat Marc Marquez (+4.479 sec) and Valentino Rossi (+6.098 sec) as Lorenzo in "hammer mode" did this week- end in Barcelona. Especially since Ducati will have to face in 2019 a reinforced opposition at Honda, with the numbers 93 and 99 in the same team !

Lorenzo’s success in Catalonia made him the third rider to have signed a double with the Ducati in MotoGP, after Loris Capirossi (2005), Casey Stoner (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010) and Andrea Dovizioso (2017). The current teammate of the Mallorcan – left at fault in Catalonia – had just won last year on the same circuits (Mugello and Montmelo) before doing it again in Austria and then in Great Britain.
Another interesting statistic: besides their "solitary breakaway" format, Lorenzo’s victories in Italy and then in Catalonia both have one thing in common: the presence of his former teammate Valentino Rossi on the third step of the podium, he who had precisely failed to to win any race over the Italian diva !
