Marc Márquez, official Honda (3rd in qualifying, 1st in race and 1st in the championship)
“This race was more mental than physical. After my mistake in Austin it wasn’t easy to take control like that from start to finish, but I knew I had the pace and the bike to do it. I wanted to race like in Argentina and like at the start of the GP of the Americas, to prove that it was indeed a mistake there, I felt comfortable all weekend and was able to ride as I wanted. Thanks to the Repsol Honda team, they have done a great job over the last few weeks and here this weekend. It’s great to take the lead in the championship again. ".
Alex Rins, official Suzuki (9th in qualifying, 2nd in race and 2nd in the championship)
"It’s incredible to win (editor’s note) then to finish second. I’m very happy! This race was really difficult and starting from the third row made it even harder. I gave myself 100% and I knew my race pace could be close to Marc’s so I tried to get a good start and come back up. The Spanish fans were fantastic today, I saw the Peluqui corner packed and it gave me a boost. motivation with each passage. I want to stay on this pace and I hope to have such a good result at Le Mans ".
Maverick Viñales, official Yamaha (5th in qualifying, 3rd in race and 6th in the championship)
“Being on the podium is like a victory for me. When I saw that Dovi and Petrucci were behind me, I was like ‘Woah, Dovi is going to attack and it is going to be complicated’ so I tried to to make the best possible times. Honestly it was difficult because at the end I hardly had any more tires left. I don’t know if I could have continued as on the last lap, but I’m happy because at the end of the race the bike was good. It was very important for me to show that we could be there. We regained a lot of confidence, especially with the front tire. We made modifications to the bike which gave me more consistency from the start so I can be much more precise. I’m really happy that I didn’t lose any positions at the start, I even bought one and then another during the race. We worked a lot during the whole weekend. After the FP3 we were not in Q2, which means that in the meantime we have considerably improved the bike. This was a good test to see where we stand. It’s good not to be too far from the front lines and the most important thing is to be on the podium regularly. If we give the best of ourselves, I think we can win, but frankly we will not have time to breathe. Especially on Monday, we have to have a good test and absolutely everything is done and we arrive at Le Mans in a good state of mind ".
Andrea Dovizioso, official Ducati (4th in qualifying, 4th in race and 3rd in the championship)
"Considering all the problems we’ve always had at Jerez, we can be happy with both our pace and the gap with the leaders at the end of the race. That said, it’s a shame that we didn’t manage to finish on the podium because that was our goal. The race was faster than expected and I lost a lot of ground at the start. Towards the end I took a lot of risks for catch up with Viñales, but I was always wasting too much time in the faster corners to be able to attack him under braking. We knew that on fast circuits like here we would have a little more trouble. We have to improve the speed of cornering, we have already partially succeeded and we are not far from our competitors, so on Monday we will continue to work in this direction ".
Danilo Petrucci, official Ducati (7th in qualifying, 5th in race and 5th in the championship)
"First of all, I’m happy to have managed to manage this race which turned out to be a bit trickier than expected. At the start I just tried to stay calm and focused, in order to preserve the little ones for the last ones. laps. I really thought that the podium would be within our grasp but unfortunately it was not, although we gave 100% until the last moments Andrea and I. I lack a bit of speed on the corners and I was not as efficient as I would have liked under braking. To finish in the top 3 this year you will have to adjust every little detail and in my case, start from a better position on the grid. nevertheless a positive weekend. We took important pints for the championship and from Monday we will be working hard to get closer to the outposts ".
Valentino Rossi, official Yamaha (13th in qualifying, 6th in race and 4th in the championship)
"We chose the tires at the very last moment. I wanted to race in medium but the temperature clearly increased and we hesitated between medium and hard … Finally we put on the hard and I think we didn’t I shouldn’t have. I would like to see what the medium race would give because at the end Maverick was good. I got off to a good start but at the beginning I didn’t have the pace to overtake. In the second part of the race I was good and my pace was not bad. Sufficiently good in any case to overtake, attack and take some points which are good for the championship. I think that if I had started better placed, I could have stay with the group of leaders that Maverick was close to. The pace in the race was very, very fast. I gained almost 25 seconds in my race last year, I am less behind the winner, I am feel more comfortable on the bike and on the last lap especially I was fast. Now we have to focus on the next steps bears ".
MNC analysis : Very poorly placed in 13th position on the grid, Valentino Rossi probably lost any chance of the podium in the first qualifying session which did not open the doors to the second … Even if his pace and his experience allow him to win seven places at the finish, this is not enough to keep his second place in the general classification: the Doctor will arrive at the French GP in 4th position, last of the four leading drivers who still stand in nine small points thanks to the Marquez dumpling in the United States…
Cal Crutchlow, Honda LCR (6th in qualifying, 8th in race and 9th in the championship)
“I never found the right setting this weekend and I think otherwise I could have used the hard rear tire that I was pretty quick with in the warm-up. But I wasn’t confident enough to take it in the race because I was afraid of having a bad feeling like the last few days. So I went for the medium and it was the wrong choice. It’s that simple. I made my better and an eighth place is obviously preferable not to finish the race. We have to work on the settings of the bike because for the moment I do not feel very comfortable, as we saw in race".
Jorge Lorenzo, official Honda (11th in qualifying, 12th in race and 14th in the championship)
- Jorge Lorenzo :
Johann Zarco, official KTM (18th in qualifying, 14th in race and 18th in the championship)
- Johann zarco :
Fabio Quartararo, Yamaha satellite (1st in qualifying, retirement in the race and 13th in the championship)
- Fabio Quartararo : "Both disappointed and happy"
Joan Mir, official Suzuki (12th in qualifying, retirement in the race and 16th in the championship)
"I’m disappointed that I didn’t finish because I had good potential this weekend, but it’s the law of the race. I was happy with my feelings and when I saw that I was catching up with the group of in front I felt really good. I love Le Mans, I hope I can have a good race there and get the result that I know I can do ".
