German GP – Marquez (1st): "Ich liebe dich Sachsenring!"
Marc Marquez approaches the MotoGP summer break with peace of mind, with his 46 points ahead of Valentino Rossi in the championship after his ninth consecutive victory on the Sachsenring circuit during the 2018 German GP! Debriefing.
Marc Marquez – Honda-Repsol (1st in qualifying and 1st in race) : "It was a difficult race, especially at the start. My start was far from perfect and I lost two positions. It was not easy to regain the advantage over the Ducatis! I then started to attack. J ‘was trying to manage my tires when I saw Valentino approaching ".

- MNC of July 12, 2018 :
"When the gap fell to 0.6 sec, I said to myself that it was time to attack again: that‘s how I had my best time at the end and that I was able to keep a good rhythm. Nine wins in a row on this circuit is something incredible. I can only say one thing: Ich liebe dich Sachsenring! "
MNC analysis : More than this new success at the Sachsenring, it is the method used by Marquez this weekend that impresses. The Honda rider set out to prepare for the race from the first free practice, completing long runs without worrying about the time..
Sure of himself, the "King of the Ring" let his rivals take the hand and show their game during the tests: and in,, Dovizioso in FP4 … The n ° 93 remained behind, while everyone else the was waiting at the forefront with regard to his eight pole positions and as many victories signed across the Rhine, all categories combined.
It was from qualifying that the defending champion began to shed his cards: Marquez set off to take pole with just 25 thousandths ahead of Danilo Petrucci, breaking his own absolute circuit record in the process. (1’20.270 against 1’20.336 in 2015) !
In the race, Lorenzo’s future teammate showed the same sense of strategy and restraint. Starting with a soft rear tire when his rivals were in medium, Marc Marquez took the wheel of Lorenzo and Petrucci without looking for a fight to preserve his soft tire. Then he rose to the helm before digging an advantage that no one has been able to fill, including Rossi who nevertheless put up a good resistance to him..
This daring tire choice is surprising since the Honda is known to be "greedy" in rubber, especially on a short and abrasive circuit like the Sachsenring. After the race, Marc Marquez explains that this rather rare choice concerning him was made during the warm-up thanks to the race simulations he had previously carried out..
The man with nine victories at the Sachsenring thus realized that the soft compound had the necessary resistance to hold the 30 laps of the race, while offering him a little more in terms of speed against the clock. "It may sound weird, but I found the medium tire to be softer than the soft", even admits Marquez. !
And the lap times achieved by the Honda official confirm the relevance of his choice: Marquez set his best time in 1’21.643 in his 22nd lap. And the Catalan is not the first to make this observation of the astonishing resistance of the soft compound: Ducati riders – among others – have also noticed it on other circuits.
Still, Marc Marquez goes on vacation with the feeling of duty accomplished: this second victory in a row after the Netherlands brings his lead over Valentino Rossi to 46 points (it can’t be invented). The Doctor is second in the provisional classification ahead of Viñales and Dovizioso. Marquez can indeed proclaim loud and clear in Goethe’s language "I love the Sachsenring" !
