Dutch GP 2018 – Rossi (5th): "Dovizioso’s overtaking was not very smart"…
A lot of bitterness for Valentino Rossi, fifth in the 2018 Dutch GP when a podium was well within his reach on this Assen circuit where he signed his last victory last year. The Doctor lost big by widening in the first corner two laps from the finish, following an overtaking of Andrea Dovizioso which he considers ill advised … Statements and analysis MNC.
Valentino Rossi, Yamaha-Movistar (2nd in qualifying and 5th in race) : "It was a ‘wild’ race. I’m happy to be there, at the forefront, because it was very exciting. But I’m sad because I had the potential for the podium … The problem was that I was unlucky at the start with Lorenzo, who hit the vibrator and lost the front slightly. I was in full acceleration and we touched at 220 km / h (exactly 195 km / h at the time of l ‘impact: see the video below, Editor’s note). We were both lucky not to fall ".

“During the race, it was very difficult because I was trying to control the degradation of the tires. I had soft rubber at the back and I knew it could be borderline at the end. Two laps from the finish. , I was second behind Marquez and then in the first corner, Andrea tried to pass me … He came in very hard and I had no choice but to rule out ".
“We both lost a lot of time. It was an aggressive attack, but like many others in this race so it’s OK for me. But at this point in the race, it wasn’t necessarily the right strategy: we both had the potential to finish on the podium and we only finished fourth and fifth ".
Site analysis : Valentino Rossi had big ambitions for the 2018 Dutch Grand Prix in Assen, the scene of his last success and that of Yamaha in MotoGP. "A year without a victory: I prefer to laugh about it than to cry", commented the Doctor who continues to demand a frank progression of electronics on the M1.
Starting off from his second place on the grid, the No.46 spent the entire race scrapping hard with the "wild" group which consisted of Lorenzo, Marquez, Rins, Vinales, Dovizioso and Crutchlow. Very comfortable in the final chicane, Rossi is even one of the five drivers briefly topped the 2018 Dutch GP..
For this, the Genie des Alpages had to thwart several risky situations, the most impressive of which was undoubtedly his percussion in the rear of Lorenzo’s Ducati who was leading the troop at the time! The impact was violent, but the two former teammates got away – miraculously – without a hitch: the show was able to continue !

In "old fox", Valentino Rossi planned a final blow of collar in the last laps to lock his access to the podium: the official Yamaha rider thus got rid of Dovizioso … who immediately regained the advantage in the straight line thanks to the superiority of the Italian V4 !
Better positioned under the braking of the first corner, "Dovi" then infiltrated – with forceps – under the nose of his compatriot, forced to widen by losing several positions … and all hope of a podium at the same time…

"It was not a very intelligent overtaking", reproaches the famous n ° 46 to Andrea Dovizioso, indeed a little optimistic in his maneuver. The Ducati rider – who had an advantage and logically took advantage of it – considers it wiser to cut short any potential conflict.
"I did my race, Valentino did his: it’s as simple as that. No controversy", replied Dovizioso to the Sky channel … before delivering his opinion all the same: "normally, the pilot who is inside is right and in this case, I was on the inside trajectory. In my opinion, it is he who is making a mistake of judgment ". No controversy, really ?!
Still, the nine-time world champion gives up big points to Marquez in the provisional, when he had just signed three successive podiums in, then in. Rossi retains second place in standings but falls behind leader Honda from 27 to 41 points…
The gap between the native of Tavullia and his teammate Maverick Viñales, 3rd in the provisional, is also reduced to only six lengths (99 against 93) at the end of this eighth race of the season. Even more worrying: Yamaha’s losing streak now reaches 25 races…
