San Marino GP – Crutchlow (3rd): "I am proud of my team"
Cal Crutchlow is one of the main beneficiaries of Lorenzo’s fall at Misano, which allows him to reach the podium on the grounds of his LCR team. The Briton says he is delighted with the work done after a 2018 San Marino GP spent between the first and second group. Debriefing.
Cal Crutchlow, Honda-LCR (6th in qualifying and 3rd in race) : "The team did a fantastic job this weekend, on this very important race for them. I was so disappointed not to be able to run at home two weeks ago (, Editor’s note), so we put everything in work here and gave our maximum ".

"I lost a second behind Maverick Viñales and Alex Rins: it kept me from staying in contact with Marc and Jorge. In the first laps I was unable to attack as much as I wanted and I was am passed by Rins. But overall we can be very happy with this result. ".
"Granted, I took advantage of Lorenzo’s crash at the end. But we did a really good job, so I don’t really care if I was lucky. And then I would have been too. delighted to finish 4th! I am proud of my team and we are going to Aragon on this good dynamic ".

Site analysis : Cal Crutchlow, who started off like Marquez with a hard tire up front, lost ground on the leading men while he gained confidence in his front end. Not fast enough in the first laps, the Briton then had to get rid of Viñales and then Rins before being able to take the leaders in his sights..
Too late: Dovizioso, Lorenzo and Marquez had taken the tangent, without waiting for the LCR driver whose pace was anyway insufficient to be threatening. With his fastest lap in 1″33.185, Crutchlow was 4 to 5 tenths slower than the top three (Dovizioso set a record in 1"32.678, while Marquez and Lorenzo went down in 1"32.8).
The n ° 35, absent from the podium since his victory in Argentina, consequently engaged in a lonely race between the first and the second group, without being able to return to the outposts. He finished 7.269 sec behind the winner, but he easily contained the drivers behind him.
Lorenzo’s fall on the penultimate lap finally frees him to the podium, a "bonus" which he is very proud to offer to his Italian team led by former driver Lucio Cecchinello. This fine performance also brought him up to 6th place in the provisional, ahead of Zarco and Petrucci, to whom he regained the status of first private driver..
Note that the Honda-LCR rider had fun at the finish of the way his passage went over Alex Rins, who swerved into a curve after turning around to visualize Crutchlow’s position: " it’s nice, it was an easy overtaking ", laughs the Briton, a little teasing !
