San Marino GP – Dovizioso (1st): "Winning at Misano is particularly important for Ducati and me"
Double blow for Andrea Dovizioso: the Italian wins at home the first victory of his career in Misano – on the grounds of Ducati – and takes the second place in the provisional to his teammate Lorenzo, who left at the fault in the penultimate lap of the San Marino GP 2018. Debriefing.
Andrea Dovizioso, Ducati (4th in qualifying and 1st in race) : "I wanted this victory so much, because at Misano, Ducati and I have always had difficulties in recent years. But in the private test carried out here in August, we took a big step forward and we knew we could be competitive ".

"We worked well all weekend, in very different conditions from the test. But as Jorge and Marc were very strong, I had to have a perfect race to win as the temperatures were warmer on Sunday (27 ° C) in the air and 41 ° C on the ground, or two more degrees than in qualifying: an increase that would be the cause of the Yamaha’s difficulties, Editor’s note) ".
"I started with the right frame of mind, totally focused on my racing strategy. Knowing Jorge, I told myself that I had to be aggressive from the start. But to my surprise, he is not started as fast as expected Maybe he wanted to preserve his tires because of the heat, I don’t know … I then found myself in a good position, even if my feeling was not necessarily perfect ".
"Then I took the lead and I dug a little advantage to manage the situation, setting my lap times while preserving my tires. When Jorge started to come back, I didn’t necessarily want to take any risks [… ]. But in the lap he fell I think I was in 1’32.8 and I knew what was enough. I’m very happy because winning at Misano is particularly important for Ducati … and for me too ! "

Site analysis : The Professor – nickname given to Dovizioso by his team – gave another demonstration of his know-how at Misano, where he had never won a Grand Prix. Aggressive enough to quickly recover from his 4th place on the grid, "Dovi" then got rid of Lorenzo with more ease than expected..
The Italian then managed to reconcile his speed with good management of the tires and the pace of his opponents to clinch the victory, the first of a Ducati in San Marino since that won from pole par. For the record, the impetuous Australian had again set the best time in qualifying, before falling in the race.
Thanks to this success and the, Andrea Dovizioso recovers the, 67 points behind Marc Marquez. A very significant gap insofar as there are only six races left, or 150 points to distribute. Especially if Marquez keeps scoring big points when he doesn‘t win !
Still, Ducati is currently on a winning streak, with three consecutive victories signed in, in and in! The vice-world champion would like to make the pass of four to Aragon (Spain) during the next Grand Prix on September 23, even if he expects strong opposition from Marquez: "Marc is traditionally very strong", admits Dovizioso , "but we were quick in recent testing so I think we can fight for the win even there".
