Slight drop in attendance for the 2019 French Moto GP at Le Mans
The number of spectators who came to witness the victory of the official Honda Marc Marquez at the 2019 French Motorcycle GP on Sunday is slightly lower than the record reached last year: 104,020 people against 105,203 in 2018. The choppy and cool weather is probably the cause of this tiny dip. Explanations.
On May 18, 1969, the Bugatti circuit hosted its first French motorcycle Grand Prix, won in the premier class by Giacomo Agostini on MV Agusta. 50 years later – almost to the day! -, the former Italian champion was again at Le Mans to celebrate this jubilee of the most popular motorcycle event in France in the presence of 104,020 spectators !
This attendance measured yesterday confirms the enormous success of the French motorcycle GP, which last year became the busiest event – during the races – ahead of the Dutch GP and the Malaysian GP thanks to a .
- MNC special file :
The 2019 edition therefore failed to equal this record, despite the construction of a new grandstand at the entrance to the "Esses Bleus" and the presence of two French in MotoGP: the excellent Fabio Quartararo at Yamaha – author the fastest lap in the race – and the Johann Zarco Applique at KTM. But only very little, since only 1183 spectators separate the two vintages, i.e. around 1% !
This 2019 French Grand Prix remains on its excellent momentum, notwithstanding the weather conditions which were significantly less favorable than last year: the 2018 edition took place under a frank sun and summer temperatures, while the sky was gray and l very cool atmosphere this weekend (15 ° C at the start of the MotoGP race). Friday was the only sunny day !
Not enough to discourage the public who came en masse to attend the fifth MotoGP 2019 event and all its events: meetings with the riders, concerts, mechanical show, on the starting grid … Not to mention the exhibition of motorcycles that were illustrated for half a century at Le Mans, including the five who won the very first French GP in 1969 !
- MNC of 3 December 2018 :
Remember that the French motorcycle Grand Prix last year became the calendar for the cumulative three days of testing and racing. The French meeting attracted 206,617 spectators from Friday to Sunday, against 222,535 and 206,746 respectively for the Grand Prix of Thailand and Austria..
