The lack of response from the Spanish pilot and the growing gap between the leaders then highlighted the limits of the official machine: "Mack" attributes the advance quickly taken by the n ° 20 and the n ° 93 to losses. forward "in rounds 2, 3 and 4, which disturbed me a lot".

Fortunately, the n ° 12 managed to recover and reduce the gap from almost three seconds to 1.636 s on the finish line. Maverick Viñales considers himself "happy" with this return, even if he was never able to participate in the thrilling final duel between Quartararo and Marquez.
Couldn’t do better for Viñales and Rossi

The n ° 46 – qualified 7th – is 11.757 sec behind Fabio Quartararo and 11.024 sec over Viñales, but does not hide his face: the genius of the Alpages never reached the necessary pace during practice to aim for victory and recognizes that the leading trio was faster.

"The race went more or less as planned: I thought Maverick would be a little faster and Quartararo a little slower, but anyway the three in front of me had a better pace", notes the Doctor who accused his 40 years old getting off his motorcycle in the box.
"I knew there were a couple of places I was going to waste some time ", he describes. "We tried to fix this problem over the weekend, but no luck. It was also difficult to start from seventh place, because it is a track where overtaking is complicated: I passed Dovi, but Rins caught me and then I had a hard time passing Franco because he was driving very well ".
Valentino Rossi also stumbled for a long time on Pol Epargaro’s KTM, which offered good resistance before dropping from second place on the grid to 7th position at the finish. Is this lost time behind Austrian MotoGP responsible for Rossi’s absence on the podium ?
"No, my pace would not have allowed me to get back on the top three even if I had not had the KTM in front", answers the transalpine, honestly, who like Viñales believes to have exploited all the potential at his disposal.
But what is missing from the official Yamaha that Quartararo owns ???
“Since resuming the championship after the summer break we’ve changed a lot on the bike, but I think that’s our potential right now,” he describes. "The three in front were faster, especially in the corner exits and this is where we are still missing something".
There remains a big question to which no one at Yamaha can find a satisfactory answer: why the "potential" of the official Yamaha would only allow a third and a fourth place in Misano, when that of Quartararo’s private M1 allows him to fight foot to foot with Marquez for victory ?!
Maverick Viñales – 5th in the provisional – prefers to be delighted to reach the podium for the third time in a row and for the sixth time this season. The Spaniard is also this year the only holder of a Yamaha victory – at the Dutch GP -, while Rossi (7th in the provisional) has not been on the podium since … his second place in the GP of the Americas !
