GP de Valence – Rins (2nd): "We had an incredible season"
Alex Rins concludes his second MotoGP season with a remarkable second place at the Valencia GP, after leading the proceedings firmly until the race was interrupted. In constant progression, the official Suzuki locks his 5th place in the general classification at the expense of Johann Zarco.
Alex Rins, Suzuki (2nd in qualifying and 2nd in race) : "I’m very happy with this podium because the track was incredibly slippery. During the first race, my lead over Andrea (Dovizioso, Editor’s note) at one point rose to six seconds, I couldn’t believe my eyes! For the second race, the strategy was more or less the same: attack from the start ".

"Unfortunately Andrea (Dovizioso, Editor’s note) and Valentino (Rossi, Editor’s note) caught up with me. They were stronger than me, but I’m still happy with this result. I think we had an incredible season! And then , we have gathered a lot of information for next year, which is a good thing ".
Site analysis: Alex Rins goes from 16th to 5th place in the MotoGP general classification for his second season only! a remarkable progression, up to the potential expressed by the young Catalan of 22 years on the Suzuki. The n ° 42 is already at the edge of the big names Marquez, Dovizioso, Rossi and Viñales…
Calm, quick and a good tactician, the Barcelona driver is also an excellent finisher: he regularly manages to put in an extra effort at the end of the race, gaining one or two places in the last laps thanks to his freshness. Rossi paid the price in particular, as did Zarco in !
Five times on the podium – including three on the second step – the official Suzuki totally eclipsed his more experienced teammate. Andrea Iannone – always very disappointed to have been fired from Ducati – finished 10th overall, without ever showing the same motivation as Rins. Not sure things will get better next year at Aprilia…
Alex Rins will, however, have to work on his consistency to continue climbing the ranks: the No. 42 still often feels asphalt by wanting to force too much to follow the leaders, as revealed by his five white results recorded over the first half of the season ( ,,, and).
Aware of this weakness, Rins – who will team up with Joan Mir in 2019 – showed more consistency on the return from the summer break, also well helped by the continued progress of the Suzuki – especially in terms of power. The Spaniard has thus been on the podium three times in the last four races..
In Valencia, the young man also proved his ability to gauge the risk-taking on a wet track by leading the first race very widely. A little less at ease after the second start, Rins nevertheless won a second place full of wisdom behind an untouchable Dovizioso. Promising for 2019 !
