Johann Zarco, victim of a catastrophic start on his KTM in the Czech Republic, relativizes his modest 14th place at the finish by ensuring that he has done the maximum. The French driver finished behind Oliveira, who joined him on equal points in the provisional standings.

Johann Zarco, KTM-Red Bull (3rd in qualifying and 14th in race) : "The start was a disaster … I think I suffered from skating because I was on the right side of the track, where it was still wet. I missed the start, but it was good to fight in the points and I did my best to be as consistent as possible ".

“In the last two races I couldn’t finish: it was a terrible feeling. I went all the way this weekend and I’m happy about it, even if it wasn’t very good. Finishing 14th is not satisfactory, but that’s where I am for the moment ".

MNC analysis : Johann Zarco lost in the warm-up all his hopes of defending his third place on the grid of the Czech Republic GP … The French driver knew he was unable in the dry to re-edit his remarkable demonstration made the day before on wet asphalt , when he gave KTM their best MotoGP qualification.

The n ° 5 thus expected to quickly give way on a practically dry track, but the reality exceeded his forecasts: in the space of one lap, the Cannes driver went from 3rd to … 12th place! This tumble is explained by his long skating on the still fresh part of the pit straight, which he attributes to his RC16.

Another consequence of this failed take-off: Johann was unwillingly involved in the collision between Morbidelli and Rins in turn 4, including the Yamaha-Petronas rider. "I was in my seat and I did not even see Franco, because he was on the outside while I was totally leaning to the right", retorts Zarco.

His descent – into hell? – in the classification stabilized in 16th place at the midpoint of the race, before experiencing a slight improvement: Johann notably managed to overtake Honda test driver Stefan Bradl, who replaced Jorge Lorenzo on the last lap.

Insufficient, of course, to say that he was satisfied with his race but still encouraging after his sad end to the first part of the season: remember that Johann had voluntarily withdrawn from the Dutch GP before crashing the following race in Germany…

The fact remains that the French rider again finished quite far from his teammate Pol Espargaro, eleventh and first KTM rider after having fought for a long time in the Top 5 with Rossi and Crutchlow. The French, 17th in the provisional, also finished behind the beginner Miguel Oliveira on his KTM Tech3 with which he is now tied on points (18 pts).
