GP of the Americas – Marquez (fall): "I made a big mistake"…
Marc Marquez’s invincibility in the United States came to an abrupt end yesterday in the ninth round of the 2019 Grand Prix of the Americas, when too late braking sent his official Honda to the mat… The MotoGP title holder is downgraded from first to fourth place in the provisional. Debriefing.
Marc Marquez, Honda-Repsol (1st in qualifying and crash during the race) : "We had an incredible six years here, but today I made a big mistake … Back at the box, I apologized to the team and now I would like to apologize to the fans because it is ‘was my fault ".

"It’s different to make a mistake when you’re fighting for fifth place and when you’re fighting for victory. Fortunately, we’re only nine points in the standings. It’s true that we made a mistake, but we are human and it can happen. What is needed is to learn from them, understand them and come back stronger to Jerez ".
Site analysis : "It’s so easy to make a mistake when you attack to the limit … As they say, it only takes a little to go from hero to asshole". Guess from which pilot this "raw" but full observation comes from of wisdom following the fall of Marc Marquez ?
- MNC of April 8, 2019 – Handshake: Rossi Marquez: "Time puts things back in place"
From Valentino Rossi "himself", so far the best enemy of the title holder, who brings the most unexpected consolations to Marquez! To believe that the handshake exchanged in Argentina erased enough resentment to let a certain respect take its place. Who will complain ?
If this heartwarming analysis will undoubtedly go straight to the heart of n ° 93, the extent of the damage caused by his pellet remains the same: Marquez goes from first to fourth place in the provisional standings, nine points behind the leader Dovizioso, six from Rossi and four of Rins.
This fall also reflects a certain feverishness on the part of the Spaniard, who appeared less outrageously domineering than usual this weekend in Austin. There are several reasons for this, including some concerns about tuning its RC213V and the rise of its rivals on this atypical circuit..
Marquez beaten by … Marc !
Marc Marquez – although still above the rest – is no longer the only one to unlock the secrets of the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), especially how to avoid its many bumps. Aware of the possible threat embodied by Rossi, Crutchlow and Viñales, the n ° 93 therefore gave everything from the start to widen a gap.
On this point, mission accomplished: the Catalan forged himself up to 3.7 seconds ahead of Rossi, then slowed down slightly to manage his advantage. But "Sainte Gamelle" was lurking in the area: braking delayed by three meters (according to Honda telemetry) and the front slips away in turn 12 !
Marquez’s ardor succeeded where all his rivals had failed since 2013: bringing him down in Texas, where he had reigned as absolute monarch for six editions! The No. 93 came a hair’s breadth away from matching Rossi’s record for seven consecutive wins on the same circuit at Mugello (2002-2008)…
Marc Marquez – more disappointed than furious – felt that he was not on the line during his fall, caused by his late braking to nearly 300 km / h: three small meters put an end to his usual American domination. And the deflector that appeared this weekend on the swingarm of his Honda will not have changed anything….
Honda copies the Ducati spoiler
The HRC effectively copied Ducati by installing this appendage (below circled in red), which is supposed to cool the rear tire according to the Bologna brand … Ironic when you consider that by Honda – as well as KTM, Suzuki and Aprilia – because of this "spoiler" !
Deflector or not, Marquez’s insolent supremacy in the United States is over: remember that his six straight victories at Austin are added three consecutive wins at Indianapolis (2013, 2014 and 2015) and another at Laguna Seca in 2013 ! Before that, he had won two straight wins for Indy in Moto2 (2011 and 2012).
But if this brutal end of reign in the "States" is painful, his employer has even more reasons to pull the plug: apart from Takaaki Nakagami (10th), no Honda rider has finished the race following the falls of Marquez and Crutchlow, without forgetting the mysterious "technical problem" of Lorenzo !
Let’s hope for the HRC that the Spanish GP will be more favorable to it: MotoGP will begin its European tour in Jerez after three circuits with a particular profile. For the record, Marquez won there last year ahead of Zarco and Iannone…
