Aware of the possible threat embodied by Rossi, Crutchlow and Viñales, the n ° 93 therefore gave everything from the start to widen a gap.

On this point, mission accomplished: the Catalan forged himself up to 3.7 seconds ahead of Rossi, then slowed down slightly to manage his advantage. But "Sainte Gamelle" was lurking in the area: braking delayed by three meters (according to Honda telemetry) and the front slips away in turn 12 !

Marquez’s ardor succeeded where all his rivals had failed since 2013: bringing him down in Texas, where he had reigned as absolute monarch for six editions! The No. 93 came a hair’s breadth away from matching Rossi’s record for seven consecutive wins on the same circuit at Mugello (2002-2008)…

Marc Marquez – more disappointed than furious – felt that he was not on the line during his fall, caused by his late braking to nearly 300 km / h: three small meters put an end to his usual American domination. And the deflector that appeared this weekend on the swingarm of his Honda will not have changed anything….

Honda copies the Ducati spoiler

The HRC effectively copied Ducati by installing this appendage (below circled in red), which is supposed to cool the rear tire according to the Bologna brand … Ironic when you consider that by Honda – as well as KTM, Suzuki and Aprilia – because of this "spoiler" !

Deflector or not, Marquez’s insolent supremacy in the United States is over: remember that his six straight victories at Austin are added three consecutive wins at Indianapolis (2013, 2014 and 2015) and another at Laguna Seca in 2013 ! Before that, he had won two straight wins for Indy in Moto2 (2011 and 2012).

But if this brutal end of reign in the "States" is painful, his employer has even more reasons to pull the plug: apart from Takaaki Nakagami (10th), no Honda rider has finished the race following the falls of Marquez and Crutchlow, without forgetting the mysterious "technical problem" of Lorenzo !

Let’s hope for the HRC that the Spanish GP will be more favorable to it: MotoGP will begin its European tour in Jerez after three circuits with a particular profile. For the record, Marquez won there last year ahead of Zarco and Iannone…
