Americas GP – Zarco (6th): "The others did a better job"
Johann Zarco, sixth in the 2018 Grand Prix of the Americas, moved from 3rd to 5th place in the provisional general classification of the World Championship, while rumors about his transfer in 2019 – sometimes to KTM, sometimes to HRC, sometimes to Suzuki. .. – are still not confirmed… Debriefing.
Johann Zarco, Yamaha Tech3 (3rd in qualifying and 6th in race): "It was a difficult weekend. Despite a good qualifying (4th then 3rd following the penalty against Marquez, editor’s note), I did not have a good start. Before the race, I crossed my fingers for the podium, but I think the others did a better job ".

“I knew where my weak spots were on the track, I tried to hold the gap and play with it, but it was too difficult. It doesn’t mean that I struggled with the tires, because the pace from start to finish is quite constant, but not fast enough ".
“When Dovizioso passed me a few laps before the end, I couldn’t match his pace. I expected to fight him, but my weak points were worse than his. So that means finishing sixth when I fight a lot, it’s much better than nothing ".
"This track is the most complicated for me on the calendar. But we are now coming back to Europe and that can be an advantage for us. I feel good on the bike, we can take full advantage of it with the team. So we will have to use it. these strengths to fight for victory ".

Site analysis : So it is not yet this weekend in the United States, on a circuit where Johann Zarco is twice on the podium in Moto2 (2nd in 2015 and 3rd in 2016), that La Marseillaise will have sounded celebrating its first victory in the premier class … Perhaps we will have to wait for the next race in Jerez on May 6, or in Le Mans on May 21? Or better, both ?!
In the meantime, Johann has not been dismantled in the face of the indisputable supremacy of a Marquez or the renewed ardor of an Iannone. He finished first private pilot again, ten seconds behind Maverick Viñales’ M1 and four seconds ahead of Dani Pedrosa, diminished it is true by his fracture barely welded to the wrist. Injury, let us remember, following a fall caused by a manly overtaking of the Tech3 driver in Argentina: "what Johann did on Pedrosa is not correct", a certain Rossi had protested on this subject…
At KTM in 2019 ?
Fifth in the provisional standings tied on points with Cruthclow (38 points), Johann Zarco scored 38 points in three races and is only eight lengths behind leader Andrea Dovizioso. His progress is remarkable compared to last year: at the same time, Johann was 7th with 22 points and was 34 points behind the first! Enough to put into perspective the inevitably disappointing aspect of his 6th place in Austin !
Moreover, the other highlight of this American round is due to the rumors announcing the signing of Johann Zarco at KTM: according to several sources impossible to confirm or deny, the negotiations between the two parties would have been successful this weekend in Texas…
To be taken with caution, but if this information were proven, it would cause a fairly significant upheaval on the transfer market: the n ° 5 is the object of the covetousness of many teams, including Suzuki, but also a priori of Honda-Repsol. To imagine that the Tech3 rider could have preferred KTM to the HRC, however, amazes the Moto Journal du Net enormously….
Unless Johann has let himself be tempted by the idea of winning a sporting challenge with a very motivated young manufacturer, while keeping in passing the almost "family" support of his Tech3 team which will run on KTM from next year? This is all still a matter of speculation: more information probably to come at European races. At the French GP at the end of May, for example ?
