Valencia GP – Rossi (13th): "A fall very similar to that of Malaysia"
Valentino Rossi’s 2018 season, third in the general classification, ends with two consecutive falls: in the dry in Malaysia, then in the wet yesterday at the Valencia Grand Prix. Roll on 2019 ?!
Valentino Rossi, Yamaha-Movistar (16th in qualifying, crash and 13th in race) : "My feelings were very bad because the conditions became very difficult four laps from the end (of the 2nd part of the race, editor’s note). We needed a good result for my team and Yamaha in order to finish the season in beauty, but unfortunately I made a mistake ".

"It’s a shame. It was a very similar crash to Malaysia and we don’t quite understand what happened … Maybe we will have to be more careful at the end of the race. It’s still a good performance and I had fun until the crash because I was strong. I also remain in third place in the championship, which is important ".
Site analysis : The Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia will definitely remain the "bête noire" of Valentino Rossi, who lost two titles there: the first by starting at the fault against, the second against after being demoted to last place on the starting grid following his in Malaysia.
This "curse" finally continued in 2018, despite all the hopes that had arisen on the soggy track in Valencia. Extremely at ease in the wet, the # 46 propelled himself from 16th place on the grid to 11th position after the first turn !
on Dovizioso and Rins, Rossi was sure to play the podium – even victory – when the race was interrupted in 14th with the return of heavy precipitation. At the height of the rain, when the water was streaming dangerously over the asphalt, the Yamaha official was clearly above the lot (and the water!)…
Less alert during the "second" race with less water on the ground, Rossi struggled more to follow Dovizioso when he took control of this "second" 14-lap race. The Ducati official had dug up to three seconds ahead of Rossi and Rins, forcing the Doctor to draw on his reserves to pick up.
Unfortunately, Rossi asked too much of his M1 with five laps to go and fell in turn 12: his hopes of victory were over, he who has not won since. With the exception of his dark years at Ducati (and), Valentino Rossi had never finished a season without winning at least once since his Grand Prix debut in 1996….
A disappointment all the more cruel as it comes in the wake of his, when he also made a mistake by playing for victory. A was in the dry, in the wet. But the result is the same for the 39-year-old driver, who nevertheless retains third place in the 2018 general classification thanks to his consistency..
