GMT94 Yamaha takes pole position at Bol d’Or 2016
After dominating free practice, first qualifying, night practice and the second qualifying session (that’s it ?!), the GMT94 Yamaha R1 led by David Checa, Niccolò Canepa and Lucas Mahias will start from pole position in the Bol d’Or 2016, opening round of the 2016/2017 world championship.
Very good start to the season for the GMT94, double endurance world champion ten years apart (and) and a small point of the SERT: the crew of the R1 n ° 94 (David Checa, Niccolò Canepa and Lucas Mahias) dominated with head and shoulders all the tests of the Bol d’Or, the first round of the FIM EWC endurance world championship: best time in, best time in, best time in absolute, best time on average in three drivers and therefore pole position for the start on Sunday at 3:00 p.m..
After a second qualifying session in the wet which hardly changed the ranking of the first – some teams even preferred not to ride – now remains to be confirmed in the race! "A pole position is never a guarantee of victory", relativizes Christophe Guyot, team manager. "We have to stay focused on preparing for our race. But we can be happy to have a great bike, a consistent, fast, experienced rider trio and Dunlop tires that work perfectly in all conditions.".
The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) n ° 1,, will start from second position ahead of the n ° 11 Kawasaki SRC, winner of the last four Bol d’Or,, and, while the two Honda of TSR / Technical Sports Racing (n ° 5) and Honda Pro Racing (n ° 111) complete the top 5 of the starting grid. In superstock, the pole goes to Team Traqueur Louit Moto 33 ahead of Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki and Yamaha Viltaïs Experience.
David Checa, GMT94 pilot : "We are in pole position as we worked more for the race than for qualifying. During my session, we tested a tire intended for hot conditions, in cool conditions, and we recorded some valuable information. these conditions, we can be satisfied to be in pole position ".
Niccolò Canepa, GMT94 pilot : "First season at GMT94 and already two victories. Now it’s pole position at the Bol d’Or. It’s incredible. I’m living a dream".
Lucas Mahias, GMT94 pilot : "endurance is so difficult … I’m always so afraid of making the mistake that penalizes the team. But race after race I feel confident, and today I was able to let go with a whole team behind me. My teammates are at the top and we will give everything for the race ".
