Royal Enfield hires Pierre Terblanche
Since leaving Ducati at the end of 2007, Pierre Terblanche has had a series of experiences: after two years at Piaggio, two years at Norton and one year at Confederate Motorcycles, the famous South African designer arrives at Royal Enfield. Explanations.
After Moto Guzzi, Norton and Confederate…
Faithful to Ducati for 18 years from 1989 to 2007 (read), Pierre Terblanche has had a much more eventful second part of his career: since 2009, he has worked for four different motorcycle brands. !
Hired in 2009 within the Piaggio group, the South African designer had modeled for Moto Guzzi three enticing V12 concepts (Strada, LX and LM) which were never produced, the Mandello del Lario brand preferring at the time focus on its "1200 8V" (read our and our).
Recruited by, Mister Terblanche had to "create a range of motorcycles bearing the historic Norton emblem different from the rest of the market". But the great aspirations of the boss of the English brand, Stuart Gardner, could not be realized and two years later, Terblanche still changed employer..
Hired in the spring of 2013 by the small American craftsman Confederate Motorcycles, the designer barely had time to sketch the original C2 P-51 Fighter (read) before putting away his electronic pen pencils again to join … Royal Enfield !
Participate in the rise of Royal Enfield
The Indian manufacturer is booming: according to the very serious daily, world sales of Royal Enfield should exceed 300,000 units in 2014 against 178,000 last year. The growth is such that a third plant located in Chennai (India) will increase the maximum production to 600,000 motorcycles per year in 2016.
"This extension should allow us to meet the growing demand for our motorcycles around the world."Siddhartha Lal, CEO of Eicher Motors, the Indian truck maker (in partnership with Volvo) which owns Royal Enfield, predicts..
By hiring the father of the Supersport 900, Multistrada, 999, Ducati "Sport Classic" and Hypermotard in particular, the Indian motorcycle brand is sending another strong signal: its return to the forefront will not only result in colossal sales of Bullet, Continental and other classics.
We can indeed expect something new with regard to future Royal Enfield productions … a brand which, let us remember for the youngest of our readers, was created in Redditch in England there is more than a century and which continues – more and more! – valiantly his road man (see the video on the next page).
