Business - Tuning and accessory professionals come together under the aegis of FICAT -

Chaired by Thierry Montaldo, the brand new Federation of Accessory and Tuning Importers and Manufacturers (FICAT) aims to "unite and represent all the players in the mechanical accessory and tuning market". Presentation.

Three months before the Paris Tuning & Racing Show – which will celebrate its tenth anniversary from February 28 to March 3 at the Parc des Expositions du Bourget -, the motorcycle world welcomes a new entrant with the brand new Federation of importers and manufacturers of the accessory and tuning (FICAT), which is registered according to its president "in the continuity of the FI2A (Interprofessional Federation of Automotive Accessories, Editor’s note) by adding the motorcycle players".

Chaired by Thierry Montaldo – also product manager for the props maker Aurilis -, the FICAT aims "to support and advise players in the sector according to the following guiding principles":

  • Strengthen the professionalism of industrial and commercial players in accessories and tuning

  • Ensure that respect for the user and their safety are taken into account

  • Guarantee the quality and compliance of products with regulations as well as their correct adaptation to vehicles

  • Ensure regulatory watch and be the interlocutor of official bodies at the same time as a source of proposals

  • Communicate to customers and users to explain our work and establish genuine confidence in our products

  • Encourage professionals to develop services around their products

  • Promote transparency and product traceability

  • Encourage the consideration of respect for the environment

  • Help and protect the creation that adds value to our profession.

Two committees made up of product specialists have already been set up on two major subjects: "aluminum rims and body kits", specifies the FICAT.

Their first mission will be to establish a "White Paper" which will define "the qualities required by FICAT to market new products with respect for the user and their safety, as well as compliance with the rules in force".

A "Consulting" pool has also been opened in order to "to help creators of accessories or concepts in their efforts to develop their know-how and defend their interests", explains FICAT, which also wishes to create a" FICAT Approved "label for each product family..

This "quality label" "would apply to the products and not to the company", specifies the FICAT:"in order to have the right to affix the "FICAT Approved" logo, applicants must comply with specifications defined in the White Paper and relating to the following points":

  • The ability of products to meet a precise standard of quality, safety and compliance

  • The transparency of the company that distributes the products and its ability to provide all the information and results requested by FICAT.

"The presence on the market of products bearing this new logo and its recognition in the profession will clearly distinguish the products.", forecasts the FICAT, which also foresees"the possibility for customers to easily distinguish serious products from products introduced on the market without any guarantee of quality, safety or conformity".

The objective of this label is also to allow "the recruitment of new customers who will feel reassured, and the possibility for market players to more easily promote approved quality products". Ultimately, FICAT hopes to be able to achieve"the gradual elimination of "wild" players who trivialize the market and tarnish the image of tuning".

We are in the process of becoming affiliated with the European Tuning Organization, which brings together several European federations on joint projects in the field of tuning and two-wheelers ", continues the president who also works"the affiliation of FICAT to one or more French unions in order to strengthen our legitimacy".
