Drivers and teams - Andrea Iannone, still suspended for doping, will not ride at Sepang - Occasions APRILIA

Andrea Iannone was heard on Tuesday by the International Disciplinary Court (CDI) of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to defend himself against doping charges. Verdict: Aprilia official rider remains suspended until further notice and will miss official MotoGP testing in Malaysia. Explanations.

This time, it’s official: Andrea Iannone will not be riding the new – and promising – in the first round of official MotoGP tests from February 7-9 in Sepang (Malaysia). Reason? The whimsical Italian remains suspended by the FIM for with a product of the steroid family.

"Following a routine check in competition, during the FIM Grand Prix World Championship in Sepang (Malaysia), on November 3, 2019, Mr. Andrea Iannone tested positive for a substance prohibited by WADA ( World Anti-Doping Agency). He has been provisionally suspended since December 17, 2019 ", recalls the International Motorcycling Federation.

As already, "Mr. Andrea Iannone requested the analysis of sample B, which confirmed the analysis of sample A". In other words: n ° 29 would indeed have ingested doping products, although its counter-analysis would reveal a significantly lower content of the substance in question..

Lawyers for Iannone, who claims his innocence, explain this positive analysis by an involuntary contamination which would result from the consumption of meat from farm animals force-fed with steroids…

"If traces of anabolic steroids were found in the urine, the fault lies entirely with the meat-based diet followed by Iannone during his long stay in Malaysia last fall", reaffirms lawyer Antonio de Rensis, quoted by the Italian daily La Reppubblica.

Andrea Iannone remains "suspended until further notice"

But this line of defense – a little wobbly – did not convince the FIM International Disciplinary Court before which Andrea Iannone appeared on Tuesday in Mies (Switzerland) to plead his case, hoping for a lifting of his suspension to participate in the Sepang tests (Malaysia).

"The procedure is still ongoing and will remain so until the CDI delivers a verdict," said FIM. "Mr. Andrea Iannone remains provisionally suspended until this verdict and is therefore banned from motorcycle racing or related events until further notice".

This decision and its details are not further explained by the authorities of the federation, which takes refuge behind the "world anti-doping code and the FIM anti-doping code" so as not to "provide additional information at the present time".

Iannone is a hair’s breadth away from her handlebars at Aprilia ?

According to some transalpine media, the pilot’s lawyers have yet presented a new document to support their defense: an analysis carried out on a lock of Iannone’s hair which would prove the absence of doping products from September 2019 to January 2020.

But this hair analysis was not enough to convince the three judges of the FIM Disciplinary Court who heard Iannone. Message received from Aprilia, who begins to publicly consider a breach of contract if by chance this extension of suspension were to extend over the long term…

Remember that Aprilia turned to Lorenzo Savadori to replace Iannone during the, during which Aleix Espargaro distinguished himself with the second fastest time behind his brother Pol’s KTM. The Italian brand will continue its development from Friday in Malaysia, still in the absence of Andrea Iannone.
