Rins and Suzuki remain united for 2021 and 2022 MotoGP seasons
Like his compatriots Marc Marquez at Honda and Maverick Vinales at Yamaha, the Spanish rider Alex Rins remains faithful to his manufacturer: the No.42 will run for Suzuki in 2020 – well, let’s hope … – as well as the two seasons following ! Explanations.
Moto3 vice-world champion in 2013 behind Maverick Vinales (3rd in 2014) and Moto2 vice-champion in 2015 behind Johann Zarco (3rd in 2016), Alex Rins arrived in MotoGP in 2017 directly within the official Suzuki team, alongside the fiery Andrea Iannone…
Injured to the wrist from the third round in Austin (USA), the n ° 42 missed a third of his first season in the premier class. On his return, the Barcelona driver gradually straightened out, even entering the Top 5 at the end of the year. On the track, however, the beginner is still far from the podium..

Sixteenth in the 2017 World Championship, the young factory driver (born December 8, 1995) dramatically increased his pace and rank the following year. Riding a GSX-RR which is also increasingly competitive (by the way,), Alex finished fifth. Above all, he finished his races very well and his second season at the highest level….
After champion Marquez, Rins is the most successful driver at the end of the 2018 season: he only came out of the Top 5 in seven races and climbed on three podiums. Quite logically, the firm of Hamamatsu extends the contract of its advanced pilot for two more years.
In 2019, Alex Rins confirms his status as cador of the discipline. In addition to the solid results which he recorded whatever the circuit, the Suzuki rider offered his first two victories in the premier class. To do this, he beats Valentino Rossi in Austin (USA) then Marc Marquez in a new historic finish at Silverstone (Great Britain).
Eclipsed in the media – especially in France! – by our "Fabiolous Rookie" Quartararo, Rins finished the year 2019 in a superb fourth place. He is six points behind the bronze medal won by his best enemy Maverick Vinales, the former Suzuki rider. …
In the aspiration of Vinales, by the "monstrously prestigious" Yamaha team to take over from good-but-old Valentino Rossi. were quick to react by announcing the signing of a contract binding them for four years, until the end of 2024 therefore !
Yesterday, it was up to Suzuki to start unveiling its plans for 2021 and 2022 … "The 2020 pre-season testing showed great potential and a great chemistry between Rins and the new version of the Suzuki GSX- RR ", welcomes the Suzuki Ecstar team and does not wait for the first races to validate its choice.
The Japanese MotoGP project manager at Suzuki, the Italian team boss and the Spanish rider are all delighted with their common progress over the past three seasons. None gives a precise objective for the three seasons to come: 2020 is not ready to be launched, 2021 and 2022, it is far. But continuing to earn one place in the championship per year could be interesting !
Official statements
Shinichi Sahara, Project leader:
"This renewal for two more seasons with Alex Rins makes us very proud, because he is truly a cornerstone in this project, which consists in making young drivers grow. It will mean that we will have spent at least six years with him, this is exactly what we were aiming for the first time we signed him. Together with his team, he has matured greatly. We have obtained podiums, victories and the best is yet to come. Unfortunately, the current condition does not can not demonstrate all the progress that has been made and what we are capable of. But this Coronavirus crisis is unheard of and we must adapt. Either way, we remain optimistic for the future, this announcement in is the proof ".
Davide Brivio, Team manager:
"We are delighted to renew Álex Rins for two more seasons in our team. This agreement will thus extend our collaboration to six years and I think that this stability will be beneficial to all of us. I want to clarify that the two parties were actually agreed for months, in fact all that was missing was the signature. It’s done and we can therefore announce it. Our goal is to continue to work for all together to become even stronger. We had a fantastic end of the season and we just want to start from there ".
Alex Rins, Suzuki # 42:
“My wish was to continue with Suzuki and that’s exactly what I did. I believe in this project very much. I have this desire to win, too, it’s the perfect combination. my place in this team and together we are working hard to achieve great results. I have always believed in this team, which is why I did not wait to give them my approval. It was just then necessary to finalize a few details, following the internal processes. Now we have to understand what is going to happen in 2020, but we are ready to fight, as we did in the pre-season. Right now everyone is facing a strange situation. We have to be patient and see how it unfolds. On our side, we will make sure that we are ready when the time comes to resume. Dorna is doing everything in her power to make us run. But they hold on of course consider what matters most, namely safety and health t people. We just have to wait, while staying focused on training ".
