Pierre Laurent-Chauvet: communication should restore confidence in Voxan
Interviewed by Site, the CEO of Sidam analyzes the French two-wheeler market and takes stock of his 2007 strategy. With the arrival of the Jialing 600, the first large displacement built in China, and the reindustrialisation of Voxan
Distributor of the brands Jialing, Jincheng, Lifan, Zongshen but also Jianshe (quads), Regal Raptor and more recently CFMoto and Voxan, Sidam has signed up for the third year in results.
Its managing director, Pierre Laurent-Chauvet, informs Site of his satisfaction and his objectives for 2007, but also of his concern about the new forms of distribution of Chinese products in France….
Site: What do you think of the general evolution of the two-wheeler market in 2006? ?
Pierre Laurent-Chauvet, Managing Director of Sidam: The 31% increase for the 125 cc demonstrates the need to improve French mobility. For market players, it’s comforting! The results were driven by the 9.2% represented by Chinese brands in this category and by the number of players for the 125 category, which went from 69 in 2005 to 117 in 2006. Unfortunately, with the negative side of those who do anything, by selling on the net without a distribution network or in supermarkets products manufactured by unscrupulous manufacturers, unable to respect the regulations and offer an acceptable after-sales service…
Site: What is your assessment of your year in 125 and large cubes? ?
P. L.-C. : As every year since its creation three years ago, sales of Sidam are increasing.
Site: Are you fully satisfied with the results of your three best sales? ?
P. L.-C. : Absolutely ! The E-charm, Raxter, JL-R and Eupolo with the JC 90 are second generation products that appeal to our dealers and customers..
Site: Which models have you been disappointed with in sales and what was the cause ?
P. L.-C. : The Zongshen range, which has not been renewed, and the cessation of production of the Cityrun.
Site: In your opinion, have your new products for 2006 "fulfilled their contract" for their first year ?
P. L.-C. : Yes, and these models will evolve in 2007 and 2008 due to Euro III.
Site: What was the good surprise 2006 ?
P. L.-C. : Several good surprises:
- the distribution of Jianshe quads, with a 30% increase in sales.
- the quality of these products and the fact that Jianshe designates Sidam Europe as its European spare part distribution center and as the exclusive importer from 2007
- the fact that for 2007, Sidam Europe is the exclusive importer of CFMoto
- the Voxan distribution agreement
Site: What was the worst ?
P. L.-C. : The Zongshen range … But the new range is scheduled for the second half of 2007 !
Site: What tools do you plan to use to get Voxan out of its deadlock (108 sales this year) ?
P. L.-C. : Sidam Europe’s distribution networks: in one month, we have already identified 57 concessions in France, the target being 100 by the end of 2007. Distribution in Italy and Germany will also begin in the second quarter. The re-industrialization agreements are in preparation and the communication will have to restore confidence in the brand.
Site: How were your 2007 novelties received by your network and by all bikers ?
P. L.-C. : Very good: we are expecting the 600 cc from Jialing this quarter, the new Jincheng 4-stroke scooter 50 "Doggy 50" which will have a bright future, the E-charm III for the second quarter and the liquid-cooled Raxter 2 released at the start. February.
Site: In 2007, what will be your objectives in terms of sales but also of network, image and communication? ?
P. L.-C. : 3,000 units and more, going from 185 dealers to 200 and 70 quads dealerships. Not to mention the launch of new models, regional shows and the Mondial du 2 Roues.
Site: What is the share of Internet in your activity ?
P. L.-C. : The Sidam site promotes our products and the distribution network. The Sidam Pro site, reserved for our dealers, requires a lot of development and updating. We are considering the sale on the site with delivery to the dealer.
Site: What will be your major events in 2007 ?
P. L.-C. : The launch of the JH 600 (the first large displacement built in China), the arrival of 2007 models and the Paris Motor Show. We also prepare the agreement with ADA for the rental.
Site: In conclusion, which maxim would best illustrate your 2006 balance sheet ?
P. L.-C. : The "Next Dream" is taking place !
