Pierre Laurent-Chauvet: frankly, we were hoping for better for Voxan
Importer of the Jialing, Jincheng and Zongshen brands in particular, SIDAM took over the French brand Voxan in 2007. Pierre Laurent-Chauvet, its president, draws up the 2007 report for Site and reveals his objectives for 2008..
Site: What do you think of the general evolution of the two-wheeler market in 2007? ?
Pierre Laurent-Chauvet, president of Sidam: The progression is always interesting. In addition, the 20% increase in MTT1 shows that the passage of permits is on the rise. For the first time, the four manufacturers together only pass the 50% mark, which was achieved by two of these manufacturers a few years ago. In addition, for the first time, all four are below 20% market share: it is increasingly difficult to advocate exclusivity under these conditions..
M.-N.C. : What is your assessment of your year in 125 and large cubes? ?
P. L.-C. : In 125cc, the results are satisfactory. For Voxan, we consider it the year of the restart to restore confidence with the measures taken but frankly, we were hoping for better than the result obtained.
M.-N.C. : Are you fully satisfied with the results of your three best sales? ?
P. L.-C. : Regarding the E-charm and the Raxter yes. We are disappointed for the Abila, we expected better because of the quality of the bike and its well placed price.
M.-N.C. : What are the models whose sales have disappointed you and what was the cause ?
P. L.-C. : The Eupolo scooter, because of these performances and its box under the saddle not large enough, and the JH 125 because despite its twin cylinder and a low price, the style seems outdated. For Voxan we were hoping to sell more Street and Black Magic which are very good bikes, but customers are waiting to regain confidence in the brand and its distribution network..
M.-N.C. : In your opinion, have your new products for 2007 "fulfilled their contract" for their first year ?
P. L.-C. : The liquid-cooled Raxter 2 and the E-charm 3 yes, these are products today close to zero defects in terms of perceived quality, finish and durability..
M.-N.C. : What was the good surprise 2007 ?
P. L.-C. : We weren’t doing 50 cc until now, so the good surprise comes from the Doggy 50 thanks to which we are reaching young customers that we can retain and that leads to traffic in dealerships. This product has been improved according to our specifications, the dealers are happy with it and it is a success.
M.-N.C. : What was the worst ?
P. L.-C. : The relaunch of Voxan despite a lot of work. And the proliferation of the distribution of low-quality products, without a distribution network, of scooters, motorcycles and ATVs by non-professionals who distort the market.
M.-N.C. : What do you think was the highlight of 2007 in the world of two-wheelers? ?
P. L.-C. : Once again the progression of the market and the re-entry into the customs that the three-wheeler product is a product of the future thanks to the performance of the MP3. It bodes well for our future XNovo.
M.-N.C. : How were your 2008 novelties received by your network and by all bikers ?
P. L.-C. : Very good for the Aventura 125, the injection Xspeed scooter as well as the new E-charm, as well as for the JC 125. Customers were finally waiting on the market for a quality replica of the Dax with a two-year guarantee. The Voxan GTV which has caused much ink to flow but which today with its new design is very well received.
M.-N.C. : In 2008, what will be your objectives in terms of sales but also of network, image and communication? ?
P. L.-C. : We are waiting for the new Zongshen line to determine the number of sales. For the network, 220 Sidam dealers and 75 Voxan with technical centers in 2008 are the objectives to be achieved, which seems easy to achieve given the number of prospects to date. For example, more than 26 Sidam dealerships have been named since the end of October.
M.-N.C. : Has the Internet share of your business increased in 2007: official website, dealer websites, impact on sales of new and used vehicles, visibility, advertising ?
P. L.-C. : Mainly on the dealership site for after-sales service. A redesign of the commercial Sidam site is under study.
M.-N.C. : What will be your major events in 2008: events, competitions, partnerships?
P. L.-C. : The launch of X-Speed ββand Aventura in March.
M.-N.C. : When will the GTV1200 roll (read) and do you have any other new Voxan models to present ?
P. L.-C. : GTV1200 to roll in Q2 2008 and further models are under consideration.
M.-N.C. : In conclusion, which maxim would best illustrate your 2007 balance sheet ?
P. L.-C. : After serious foundations, we will attack the walls.
