Market reports - The French motorcycle market resists in July and cracks in August - The motorcycle resists in July but cracks in August

The 2014 summer holidays were not fabulous in terms of weather conditions, but the French motorcycle and scooter market held up overall in July (-0.1%). On the other hand, it fell in August (-15.4%)… MNC takes stock.

The bike resists in July but cracks in August

The weather, it is well known, has been doing as it pleases for some time … However the motorcycle market seems to do the same! Last year, a sad month of June gave way to beautiful July and August, but that did not prevent the motorcycle market from plunging -8.7% over this period (read our).

This year, after a radiant spring, the two-month summer vacation broke records in terms of rainfall and little sunshine, which is not good for business, except of course for those of umbrella sellers! But motorcycle dealers for their part, do not have – too much – to complain…

In July in particular, the motorcycle and scooter market (over 50 cc) almost equaled its score last year with 15,144 registrations, a decline of -0.1% all the more negligible. that July 2014 had one working day less than July 2013 (22 versus 23).

Over this first month of the summer holidays, however, we note that the large cubes (9,922 immates, + 4.9%) performed significantly better than the 125 (5,152 immates, -9.3%). The only one to come out on both counts in July, Honda remains cumulative behind the French number one, Yamaha.

The month of August, still quieter in our sector of activity, was less satisfactory: 8,086 registrations were recorded last month, or 1,476 less than in August 2013. And this time, the missing working day cannot erase the -15.4% drop on its own.

This year, the "Augustians" were therefore less likely to renew their motorbike or scooter. No jealousy this time in terms of displacement: both small and large saw their sales drop by around -15%. Brands, on the other hand, have experienced varying fortunes…
