Motorcycle data sheets: technique, strengths and weaknesses
Imposed in 2007 for questionable security reasons, the MotoGP "800 cc format" will live its last season in 2011: the current V4 Ducati, Honda and Suzuki as well as the Yamaha 800 cc 4-in-line will be replaced by 1000 cc – 4-cylinder and 81 mm maximum bore – from 2012 (read).
This new technical upheaval creates a real headache for manufacturers: should we "freeze" the development of the 800s to better prepare for the arrival of the 1000s, or on the contrary put a final push to win the last title in 800 cc ?
Si Ducati – arrival of Rossi obliges! – and the HRC seem to have chosen the latter option (read in particular), Yamaha and Suzuki rather give the impression of staying on their way…
This makes sense for the Yamaha YZF-M1, which has already won three of the four 800 cc titles and whose consistency is the benchmark today. But the case of the Suzuki GSV-R seems more delicate: besides a flagrant lack of performance, Bautista will be the only rider to develop the Suzuki in 2011….
In general, the economic crisis and budget cuts will continue to affect the development and evolution of these fabulous machines, which Site invites you to discover in detail thanks to the detailed sheets below.
