The FFM engages in GP 125 with Honda
Following its mission to train the French elite, the FFM is creating a new team which will line up in GP 125 from next season. And it is the young Mike Di Meglio who will have to lay the foundations of this ambitious company….
Despite the combined efforts of the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) and Claude Michy (promoter of the French Grand Prix) through the French GP Team in 250, the French motorcycle suffered from the lack of a capable 125 team. to set foot in the stirrup of a future Laconi, Jacque, Charpentier… or Rossi with bearnaise sauce…
The FFM Honda Grand Prix 125 cc Team thus scores for the FFM "the logical outcome of the France Speed Line". Objective: to allow the best French to compete in the world championship in good conditions.
This new team therefore becomes the ultimate "speed" handlebars for young French people, all the more valuable as only one seat is available. It represents the top of the pyramid formed by the France Speed Stream, made up at its base of the Minibike Academy then the Challenge of the Future which prepares for accession to the French Espoir Team and finally to the handlebars of the RS125 in Grand Prix. !
As a reminder, the Minibike Academy (read) is the first step allowing the detection of the best French potential at a young age. Then comes the Challenge of the future which prepares eight pilots under the age of 17 – the age of Rossi’s first coronation, Editor’s note! – accession to the French Espoir Team. This team of two pilots has set themselves the objectives of the title in the French Open Championship and good performances in international races, before the best of the two pilots on the handlebars of the RS125 in Grand Prix !
For the first season of the FFM Honda GP125 team placed under the responsibility of Jacques Bolle, first vice president of the FFM and real "Monsieur Vitesse" in France, it is the young Mickaël Di Meglio who will benefit from this 100% French team. He will be supervised by two complementary sports managers: Alain Bronec – French 125 Open champion 1991 and 1994 – and Nicolas Dussauge – double winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans and the Bol d’Or, winner of the 24h of Spa and vice-world champion Endurance 2000. This team aims to "allow a driver, detected from his first laps on the track, to climb the ladder to the highest level of world competition", explain the persons in charge. The choice of the first pilot did not however fall on an unknown: Mike Di Meglio, first French pilot in GP 125, is already on the podium in Donington and he is currently number 10 in the championship! The goal of this operation is in fact to prowl the new structure in order to offer solid foundations to the next laureates..
Regarding the machine, the French Motorcycling Federation called on Honda Motor Europe South, partner of the FFM to all "stages of the Speed Line". Honda will therefore supply a machine equipped with an HRC kit similar to that of the best private teams entered in the Grand Prix."From the Minibike Academy created this year to the FFM Honda GP 125 Team, we are proud to be associated with the crossing of the five difficult but rewarding steps that constitute the FFM pyramid.", rejoices Bernard Rigoni, Head of Competition Service at Honda France..
See you at the end of March 2006 on the Jerez circuit for the first GP of this new team to follow !
