Attacked by the Forza in the 125 GT segment, Yamaha responded to Honda by attacking its PCX bestseller with the new NMax 125. Nicely designed and sober (2.19 l / 100 km announced), this scooter of entry-level made in Indonesia carries ABS as standard and comes in "Ocito" at MBK.

Attacked by the 125 GT segment, Yamaha responded to Honda by attacking its bestseller with the new NMax 125. Nicely designed and sober (2.19 l / 100 km announced), this entry scooter range made in Indonesia carries a standard ABS and comes in "Ocito" at MBK.

The PCX in the crosshairs

To carve out the PCX croupiers in terms of consumption (one of the big pluses of Honda partly thanks to its "Stop and Start" system), Yamaha is playing the technology card: the water-cooled 125cc single cylinder notably receives a 4-valve cylinder head and above all a unique variable distribution "VVA".

Not widely used on two-wheelers (scooter and motorcycle), this solution is based here on a mechanism which switches between two intake cam bosses depending on the engine speed, thus influencing the valve lift and therefore performance and consumption..

Thus, the consumption of this engine developing 12.2 hp and 11.7 Nm of torque would be "45.7 km" with a liter of gasoline, or 2.19 L / 100 km. Knowing that the tank placed in the tunnel contains 6.6 liters, the range would therefore reach 300 km.

Described as the "first scooter in its class to be fitted with standard ABS", the NMax / Ocito has a 24.3 liter trunk, sufficient to accommodate a full face helmet according to Yamaha / MBK. The LCD dashboard features LED backlighting (as with the rear lighting), while the grab handles will be appreciated by the passenger.

Advertised for "127 kg all full facts" and culminating at 765 mm in saddle height, the Yamaha NMax and MBK Ocito will be available "this summer" in concessions, at a price not yet communicated. We can bet that it will be well below the € 4,899 currently requested by the Xmax 125 and undoubtedly close to the € 2,799 required by Honda to start again on the handlebars of the PCX !
