Small three-wheelers ready for the start of the school year

More compact, light and affordable – in terms of size but also price – than the or, and, the new Yamaha Tricity 125 from Yamaha and its twin MBK Tryptik 125 are carefully preparing their entry on the market.

Announced for this summer during their presentations at the Milan show and then at the Paris show, the arrival in concession of these two three-wheel scooters will finally take place "early September 2014"Says the Yamaha Motor France subsidiary to Site. Either way for the start of the school year. !

Six months from the deadline, Yamaha and MBK teach us a little more about their travel machines to save time, save purchasing power and save the planet from polluting gases. !

We note first of all that the weight of the new scooter corresponds to the official estimate established at the shows last fall: the Tricity / Tryptik will weigh precisely 152 kg all full, or 17 kg less than the Xmax, .

The price remains to be discovered but Yamaha – like its French brand MBK – continues to ensure that its novelty will cost less than 4,000 euros: € 3,999, € 3,899 or less? Brand managers interviewed by MNC still keep their secret…

Still, here again, the benchmark of 125 scooters in France will be beaten by his brother and his cousin: the Xmax currently costs € 4399 in its standard version and 400 euros more with the ABS system.

Without ABS, even as an option, the Tricity 125 will be equipped with integral braking (UBS) as standard: whether it activates the right lever or the left lever – or both! -, its pilot will be assured of braking "balanced and efficient"between the two 220 mm discs at the front and the 230 mm one at the rear.

With 90/80 tires, the 14-inch front rims will be installed on the exclusive LMW mechanism (Leaning Multi Wheel or "steering multi-axles") which comprises, as on the MP3, a parallelogram connected on the one hand to the steering column and on the other to the forks.

"Another flagship component of Yamaha’s new patented LMW system is the use of special cantilever telescopic front forks, tandem type, with two separate tubes for each wheel.", says Yamaha today.

"The tubes at the rear act as a guide, while the tubes in the front fork handle the damping functions to ensure great flexibility over the entire 90mm stroke"The engineers add that, fortunately,"the suspension system works independently on each front wheel" !

The 12-inch rear wheel will be driven by a conventional continuously variable transmission, but by a new 125 cc unit with YMJET-FI electronic injection and liquid cooling, "featuring a special cylinder that has been designed using Yahama’s advanced casting technology", outbid the Blues !

"Made from aluminum alloy with a specific silica content", they proudly detail,"this lightweight cylinder has no steel liner and the piston moves directly into the aluminum bore". According to Yamaha,"this unique design provides excellent heat distribution, which improves engine performance stability and extends lubricant life".

The Japanese also insist on the fact that their small 3-wheel scooter has the same weight distribution as a MotoGP machine: 50% on the front and 50% on the rear … or rather 25-25 / 50 ! "The center of gravity of the Tricity has been set at a point just below the front of the saddle: combined with its low overall weight and 50/50 weight distribution, it is another key factor for grip. light and responsive".

The future users of the small three-wheeler will also be very sensitive to practical aspects. To coax "those who still miss the beginning of the film"(see the official video on the next page!), the Yamaha and MBK sellers should therefore emphasize during their arguments that the box located under the saddle can accommodate a full face helmet..

They will also be sure to tell them about the dashboard "user-friendly"housing an LCD screen showing"a central digital tachometer, clock, ambient air temperature indicator and odometer"… as well as the speed of the vehicle, phew !

Decked out with a traditional bulb lighthouse but "dual LED front position lights, as well as an LED rear light and LED lighting for the license plate", the Yamaha Tricity 125 will be available in four different colors: red" Anodized ", gray" Mistral ", white" Competition "and black" Midnight ".

Attention, if the Tryptik 125 is the carbon steel and plastic copy of the three-wheeled scooter from Yamaha, only the gray and red versions will be offered on this MBK version made in Thailand, like the Yamaha.
