West Coast Cruiser: Harley-Davidson relaunches the Low Rider S
The LiveWire electric motorcycle is the big novelty 2020 for Harley-Davidson. However, many "bikers" will be delighted to learn that the Low Rider S is back in the catalog of the Milwaukee firm, with a – very – large thermal engine.. Presentation.
Everything increases … on the Low Rider S! , this third model of the "S Series" produced by Harley-Davidson had a Dyna chassis and a Twin Cam 110 "Screaming ‘Eagle" engine. For its return in 2020, the cruiser is completely revised…
The Low Rider S is now equipped with a Softail type frame, supposed to offer better performance and offering a clearly more classic look (Hardtail) than the Dyna ousted in 2018. Inverted fork and rear mono shock absorber must also participate in the modernization of the motorbike and improving its behavior.

Braking is always provided by a pair of discs at the front, while a single disc officiates on the Low Rider "very short". The explanation is simple: the S model is much sportier than the standard model. Hence the choice, in parallel, of a very large engine…
The Low Rider S indeed adopts the Milwaukee-Eight 114 and thus accommodates "the largest possible displacement in the factory Softail chassis", underlines the show off Milwaukee firm. By wringing out the right handle, the "rider" has access to a maximum torque of 155 Nm from 3000 rpm, against 159 Nm at 3500 rpm on the 2016 version.
The Michelin Scroers 31 have the – heavy – load of transmitting all the power to the ground … or rather the powers: that of the engine for the rear tire of 180 / 70-16, and that of braking for the front tire of 110 / 90-19. Which is far from being a "thin" affair since the bestiau weighs 308 kg all full facts.
Style question, the controls remain high: it is a "determining element of the influence of the custom scene of the Pacific coast", underline the Americans. We also find the elegant contrast between the overall dark finish of the machine and the tan tint of its "Radiate" rims..
The solo saddle rises slightly compared to the previous model but remains very low (690 mm instead of 675). The nose screen retains extremely small dimensions (oh …), but is still painted the same color as the 18.9-liter tank (ah!).
Finally, the base price (in Black "Vivid", count 300 euros more for the Silver "Barracuda" color) of the Low Rider S 2020 barely remains under the bar of 20,000 euros (19,990 exactly). This represents an increase of 700 euros compared to its counterpart in 2016 … Since Site tells you that everything increases on this model !
Declaration
Brad Richards, VP Style & Design at Harley-Davidson:
The look of the new Low Rider S is part of the legacy of the Low Rider models of the 80’s, which has spread from Southern California to the world, and that of the recent Low Rider S model. Designed on a Dyna basis. We’ve applied that unmistakable Pacific Rim style and performance-oriented attitude to the Softail chassis to create a Low Rider S that’s more powerful and agile than ever, with a strong dose of personality.
