Unlike its little sister Versys 650 – which is currently making its own – this new 2012 Versys will not be powered by an in-line twin but by a 1000 cc in-line 4-cylinder. A rather original choice for a maxi-trail, but which can be understood in view of the essentially road use which is made of it..
The engine of the next Kawasaki Versys 1000 could even come from the hot Z1000, since the machining of its cylinder block and crankcases seems similar. Specially reworked for the new big Kawasaki trail, it could offer it more torque and flexibility to tackle the Honda 1000 Varadero market or even the Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere.
If the presence of a Z750 pot can cause confusion, the frame of the Versys 1000 seems to be borrowed from the Z1000, even if the rear loop differs from that of the big roadster emblematic of the brand: the wide and long saddle of the trail would be perched on a tubular trellis, this time in line with the idea we have of a motorcycle ready for adventure.
