Multistrada 1200: the dream bike of Ducati
Last night, Ducati lifted the veil on one of the most awaited novelties of the Milan Motor Show: the Multistrada 1200. The Italians have released the big game: with its four driving modes, the new Ducati seems capable of doing everything. Presentation !
Cutting-edge equipment
As announced the previous week (read), the Multistrada 1200 is powered by the 1198 world Superbike champion. The L-twin is naturally redesigned to meet the expectations of the multiple users of the Multistrada.
This version called "Testastretta 11 °" – ratio to the angle at which the intake and exhaust valves are both open, and which is 41 ° on the "Evoluzione" version of SBK -, nevertheless develops the trifle of 150 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 118.7 Nm from 7,500 rpm. In France of course, it will be necessary to be satisfied with the regulatory 100 horsepower, but we still benefit from its sobriety: Ducati announces a reduction in consumption of 15% compared to the engine equipping the 1198.
Also a week ago, Ducati warned that its 2010 novelty would include technologies developed in competition … And indeed, today we discover that the Multistrada integrates the famous DTC (Ducati Traction Control) system and also offers different maps adapted to the uses to be made of the machine.
Perched on high suspensions, the new Italian also wants to be able to cross all types of roads and paths. As always with Ducati, the S version – available in "Sport" or "Touring" – is adorned with Ohlins elements.
These are also electronically adjustable – with the DES for "Ducati Electronic Suspensions" – unlike the Marzocchi fork (50 mm in diameter against 48 for the Swedish!) And the Sachs rear shock absorber which are manually adjusted on the version. "Standard"…
In addition, the Multistrada 1200 marks the big comeback of ABS – optional on the Standard, standard on the S – at Ducati, testifying to the road aspirations of this new model. In its "S Touring" version, the Multistrada is even fitted with side cases, heated grips and a central stand, while in "S Sport" version, it is embellished with carbon parts..
Braking is common to all Multistrada 1200s: at the front, two 320mm discs are bitten by four pistons – two pads – housed in Brembo radially mounted calipers, while at the rear, two pistons grab a simple 245mm disc.
To summarize, nothing is too good – we leave you alone to judge the look – nor too sophisticated for the Multistrada 1200: in other words, its future buyers should pay a high price … But after all, Ducati does not promise them- he not buying four motorcycles at one time ?
