Only one year after its arrival in Europe, the slightly improved aesthetically and technically and is now available in an EX version, more class (iqu) e. Presentations of these neo-retro roadsters unveiled at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show.

CB1100 "standard"

Mechanically, the only modification made by Honda engine manufacturers to the 1140 cc air-oil-cooled 4-cylinder of the CB1100 affects its transmission: the gearbox of the 2014 CB1100 is now six-speed (5 in 2013). This sixth is of the "overdirve" type, in order to lower the consumption of this smooth 89.7hp engine and 91 Nm of torque..

A positive point given the low capacity of the tank (14.6 liters, as in 2013), even if the CB1100 is in practice sufficiently sober to allow stages of a decent length: during our, the Honda sipped in average between 5.1 and 5.8 l / 100 km, i.e. between 250 and 280 km of autonomy with its reserve of 3.5 liters.

In order to help bikers not to forget to "pass the six", the new instrumentation accommodates a gear indicator engaged, in addition to being enriched with a consumption indicator.

The cycle part articulated around a double cradle frame made of steel tubes does not know any changes: the conventional 41 mm fork and the shock absorbers adjustable in preload are renewed in their – excellent – functions, just like the brakes 4-piston at the front and single-piston at the rear whose action is coupled and assisted by standard ABS.

Now attached to black cabochons, the indicators match the new – and unique – graphite black color offered on this "standard" CB1100 in 2014.

This dark robe spans virtually every part and engine, except the chrome fenders.

Second stylistic evolution brought to this "new" model, the front optic is installed "25 mm" higher than in 2013.

Note that despite the installation of a sixth report, the CB1100 2014 would paradoxically be slightly less heavy than in 2013: 247 kg all full facts announced, against 248 for the current model. Honda France is not yet able to give us its price, but has told us that it would be available in "March 2014".

CB1100 EX

In addition to improving its standard CB1100, Honda has decided to push the neo-retro approach further with a new version called EX. This version naturally benefits from the modifications described above and immediately stands out thanks to its wire wheels, its more potent tank and especially its double silencer..

The 4 in 2 in 1 indeed gives way advantageously to two outputs, which reinforces the resemblance with the famous CB750 Four from which Honda was inspired by designing the CB1100..

The nostalgic will undoubtedly regret that the first manufacturer did not go further by opting for two double exits, as on the "4-pots" of 1969…

On the other hand, all will appreciate the replacement of the banal rims with spokes by elements with spokes: "a request of the users which could hardly be refused", explains the winged crest, giving a good example of its ability to take into account the feedback. to develop a model in the right direction.

Despite this change, the tire size remains the same as in 2013: 110/80/18 at the front and 140/70/18 at the rear, ie reduced dimensions which promote the agility and handling of the bike. Finally, the CB1100 EX benefits from two particularly welcome improvements: the capacity of its tank increases by 2.9 liters (from 14.6 to 17.5 liters), while its two-stage saddle would be thicker, therefore "more comfortable. for the pilot as for his passenger ", assures Honda.

The increased volume of the tank results in sides now much less hollowed out at the knees. The designers took the opportunity to redesign and lengthen the side covers located under the saddle, a stylistic evolution which would strengthen the "massive side" of the bike..

Speaking of "massive", the weight of the CB1100 EX inevitably increases – two silencers weigh heavier than one, in particular – since it is announced at 260 kg all full facts, or 13 kg more than the standard version.

Admittedly, the weight is a less important factor on this type of motorcycles than on a sporty roadster type CB1000R: a good distribution as Honda excels at achieving them is enough to hide the overweight.

However, the laws of physics are the same for everyone: 260 kg to push down a small slope to get out of his garage or to lift via the standard central stand to park, it weighs !

The CB1100 EX will be available in candy red, pearl white and graphite black from March 2014. As with the standard version below, MNC has so far failed to obtain its price as the we imagine significantly higher than the "basic" model.

Hopefully this predictable inflation will be as contained as possible, knowing that the price positioning of this bike is already in the upper range (10,990 euros for the 2013 model). To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
