While many expected a redesign of the Kawasaki Z750 in 2011, Akashi’s crest chose to sharpen the sporting claims of its bestseller with an unprecedented variation called Z750R.

Unveiled this afternoon at the Paris Aquarium (beware, the green sharks will have long teeth next year with this novelty), the new 2011 Z750R takes up the fundamentals of the Z750, the big displacement favorite of the tricolor bikers who s ‘has sold more than 40,000 copies since its launch at the end of 2003.

As the appearance of this "R" suggests, it naturally adds a good dose of sportiness by adopting more efficient peripherals..

Aware of the small weaknesses of its Z750 (read our and our), Kawasaki energizes its roadster thanks to an adjustable fork in stress and rebound on the two tubes, a more efficient separate reservoir shock absorber, a new aluminum swingarm and a device particularly sharp braking.

Up front, double petal discs pinched by calipers and an axially mounted master cylinder give way to thicker discs, bitten by radial calipers and master cylinder.

Everything is actuated by reinforced aviation-type hoses to keep in all circumstances a power and a feeling that we imagine formidable…

To drive the point home, Akashi’s crest has also revised the shape of the fork crown, indicators, dashboard and front fender, on which are grafted fork covers evoking the front end of the last Z1000 (read our). In addition, Kawasaki offers its new toy a two-tone paint that gives "the latest Z a line commensurate with its new level of performance", say the Japanese engineers.

On the engine side, the new Kawasaki Z750R 2011 does not undergo any significant change, but it is true that the inline four-cylinder 748 cc (with its 106 hp and torque of 78 Nm) is still largely in the game. !

This new R version will now have to be compared with the original Z750, which will remain in the 2011 catalog at Kawasaki at a price of 7699 euros.

If the Greens are still keeping the price of this new Z750R a secret (around € 8,500, MNC estimate), it is clear that it is openly targeting certain Europeans (notably Aprilia, Ducati, KTM and Triumph) who have long used this recipe allowing to double the offer from the same base … and therefore to save fortunes in research and development. A point that is very important in this economically difficult period…
