Peugeot unveils its three-wheeler and its new Satelis
The Metropolis Project announces the arrival of the Peugeot three-wheeler, a scooter that will hunt down the Piaggio MP3 LTs, which have so far remained solitary in this market segment. The new version of the Satelis is accompanying it: the Lion is working hard !
The new Satelis has arrived !
Six years after its launch in the GT scooter segment, the Satelis gets its first major update: "with 27 new body parts on 33 and 2 new engines, Peugeot Scooters is not offering its customers a simple restyling but indeed the best of the Grand Touring scooter", insists the manufacturer !
Made in France |
To the question "Are scooter customers sensitive to the mention" Made in France "?", The managers of the Peugeot brand answer us formally: "yes, because it is a guarantee of quality and expertise". Manufactured in Mandeure (25), the Satelis and the future Metropolis would thus have an advantage over Italian and Asian competition … What about the Dannemarie plant? According to our contacts, it too is directly involved in production of these new products in 2012. However, concern has been hovering ever since…. |
If the general lines of the scoot ‘are preserved, they have softened over time and the headlights, higher, now incorporate the essential LED nightlights. The "visual signature day and night"is also revised by means of elegant light guides on the taillights.
The cockpit is also getting a complete facelift: "Already acclaimed on the first generation, the new 3-dial dashboard with chrome surround adopts a 3.2 "(60×55 mm) digital screen 60% larger and now backlit in intense blue".
Likewise, the bi-material saddle has been redesigned and adopts "an impeccable finish with double stitching and a Peugeot logo heat-printed on the integrated pilot backrest".
The "new" Satelis is also equipped with new engines: the 125i discovered on the Citystar and the 300i, which share the same distribution "low friction linked to the presence of camshafts on bearings and rockers on rollers"which offers no less than four advantages according to Peugeot:"more performance, more pleasure, more silence and less consumption".
Thanks to that – and to his "Scx of only 0.402"-, the Satelis 125i gains in liveliness (9.4 seconds at 100 m DA instead of 9.6 with the old version), in pleasure and progressiveness in the conduct and in discretion (reduction of 3 dB).
The average consumption of the new 125 unit clamped to 15 hp – and developing 11.8 Nm maximum – is evaluated at 3.6 l / 100km, which theoretically allows a range of more than 350 km with a full tank, the 125cc tank containing 13.2 liters (14 liters on the 300!).
The 300 cc – "accessible with the motorcycle license", recalls to all intents and purposes the French specialist of scooters – for its part cuts down the 100 m in less than 8 seconds, benefiting from a higher torque of 13% compared to the 250 version, ie 23 Nm at 6000 rpm (for a maximum power of 22 hp 1250 rpm higher).
The chassis, suspensions and wheels (see technical sheet on next page) are renewed in their functions, on the other hand the next Satelis "will introduce 3rd generation ABS on Urban and Executive finishes ", the basic version" Premium "without being.
Developed with the Japanese Nissin, this new system includes the 260 mm front disc bitten by a three-piston caliper and coupled to the 210 mm rear disc (226 on the 300), the ABS now acting on the two wheels of the Satelis ( front wheel only on the old model) !
"Targeting a large automotive customer base, Peugeot remains true to its simplified braking philosophy by allowing the driver to stop his vehicle by pressing the left lever alone. Thus, for a clientele less accustomed to sometimes delicate dosages, Satelis clearly dissociates braking and acceleration: on the right, we use the handle to accelerate, on the left, we use the one to stop".
But that real bikers – nonetheless sensitive to the advantages of a scooter in town – be reassured immediately: Peugeot allows them to continue to manage everything with the right hand, the right lever not having – yet? – faded away !
On the practical side, commuters will be delighted to learn that the remodeling of the Satelis has made it possible to gain 12% additional capacity in the trunk "able to accommodate two full face helmets without batting an eyelid", or "a PC case with generous dimensions 35x45x15 cm equivalent to those of a cabin baggage".
70 cm deep, it can also accommodate "two snowshoes and the necessary equipment"or a pair of palm with mask, snorkel and towel, or three not overcooked baguettes and a pot of rillette, or even a poodle and its bag of kibbles…
"With a loading threshold lowered to 800 mm and an opening range of 62 °, the tailgate is very accessible and the addition of a trunk light (function disconnectable with switch) adds to the comfort of the pilot", specifies more seriously Peugeot Scooters.
Last subtle novelty to highlight: the coded key is foldable, to better hide in the bottom of pockets or bags! The new Satelis will be available in the second quarter of 2012 in the three usual finishes: Premium, Urban (with ABS) or Executive (ABS and incorporated anti-theft chain). The prices are yet to be discovered … Stay connected !
