News - Quadro 4D Scooter: the four-wheeled MP3! - Used QUADRO

In an attempt to grab a share of the huge cake that the Piaggio MP3 has been devouring alone since 2006, Quadro Technologie is launching a new four-wheel scooter: the Quadro 4D which cube 500 cc and will arrive on the market at the end of 2011.. Presentation.

In 2009, the Piaggio MP3 LT 400 (read in particular our) alone represented the best French sale of scooters – and motorized "two-wheelers" – over 50 cc with a total of 11,048 registrations, against 7,903 for the Yamaha Xmax and 6 124 for the Kawasaki Z750…

This incredible success is well set to last: in September 2010 alone, no less than 1,298 units – all models included – have sold in France (read in particular our).

Faced with this unprecedented enthusiasm, the competition had to react to try to overshadow the tripod of the Italian brand. This is now done with the Quadro 4D, a new kind of four-wheel scooter powered by a 500 cc single-cylinder 40 hp in a central position that the manufacturer Quadro Technology has just unveiled..

This very young company, also Italian, is an offshoot of Studio Marabese, a company specializing in the creation of motorcycle and scooter concepts which has already designed more than 450 projects for manufacturers such as Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Moto Morini, Triumph, Yamaha and … Piaggio !

Directed by Luciano Marabese, the men of Studio Marabese have indeed collaborated several times with the firm of Pontedera, to which they also presented the plans of the MP3 in 1999 … CQFD !

Four-wheeler MP3 = MP4 ?

Aware of the potential of this project, Studio Marabese therefore continued its research to develop a new process that would improve ease of driving and safety: the HTS system for Hydraulic Tilting System (tilting hydraulic system).

Thanks to a double parallelogram composed of elements in cast aluminum connected to the frame by shock absorbers and rods, this HTS system allows the four independent wheels (two at the front for steering and two at the rear for propulsion provided by a belt) to take an angle to accompany the inclination in curve.

But this time there was no question of selling the baby to another manufacturer, hence the creation of Quadro Technologie. This attractive concept would offer "a more precise and lighter ride", according to its designers. A point to validate during an MNC test, but to see the acrobatics of the Quadro pilot in the presentation video (and in particular the U-turns carried out full pot on wet road!), this" MP4 " seems indeed stable and agile !

On the practical side, this Quadro 4D could carry two full-face helmets in its trunk, but on the other hand it skips the ABS, like its three-wheeled rival. However, the MP3 is already a formidable brakeman – especially on wet roads -, the Quadro should logically do better in this area thanks to the additional grip granted by its additional wheel..

However, despite all the dynamic qualities claimed by its original quadricycle, Quadro Technologie will not begin its "anti-MP3" offensive with this 4D. At first, the Italians will launch a three-wheeled scooter called 3D, 400 cc, equipped with 14-inch rims and marketed in spring 2011 at around € 7,000.

After this test balloon, the Italians will begin marketing the 4D which will be imported into France by the company Royal Moto France (distributor of the brands Schuberth, Sidi, Shift and Fox in particular) at a price of around € 9,000 (compared to € 7,999 for the MP3 400 LT).

While waiting for its arrival scheduled for the end of 2011, one cannot help marveling at the imagination of the manufacturers who, in their desire to revolutionize the urban scooter market, tend to approach a concept whose constraints are to the very origin of the craze for two-wheelers in the city: the car…
