Very big chief: Indian resurrects his Roadmaster
Relaunched – for good ?! – by the Polaris group, the Indian brand continues to expand its range and presents a 2015 model that will certainly not go unnoticed at future shows and then on the roads: the legendary Roadmaster. Presentation.
Luxury Touring with Indian sauce
Acquired, the oldest brand of American motorcycles – Indian! – truly unearthed the hatchet in 2013 by successively unveiling his and …
This year, the Springfield Medina (Minnesota) firm unveils a fourth 2015 vintage machine, and not just any one … Indian indeed offers you the "Chief of the Chief", the one who wants to be a chief instead of the Chieftain : the Roadmaster !
"It has truly been a privilege for our team to be part of the history of the legendary Roadmaster, the queen of luxury touring, bringing her back to life.", testifies Steve Menneto, vice-president motorcycle of Polaris Industries (he manages at the same time Indian and, mark created by the American group in 1998).
A privilege certainly, but a sacred challenge to take up too: if its rivals are not excessively numerous, it is because they excel in their field. Even the sculptural cousin of Victory, the Vision, struggles to establish itself in the – very – Grand Touring segment..
Currently, the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited and the Honda GoldWing, each in their genre, represent the must-have in terms of road bikes. Tackling such sacred monsters is no easy task. But the Roadmaster makes some convincing arguments…
Starting of course with its technical, solid and very recent base which notably incorporates an aluminum frame (!) And a monumental V-Twin with 1819 cc displacement developing a maximum torque of 138.9 Nm at around 3000 rpm.
A Touring and Luxury version of the 21st century Chief, the 2015 Roadmaster skillfully combines the devastating look of its ancestors, the name of an iconic model produced between 1947 and 1953, and the technology of its contemporary competitors.
"The quality, craftsmanship, performance and features that surround and make up the 2015 Indian Roadmaster are unmatched in the luxury touring segment.", says the American big boss Steve Menneto !
Armed with two saddlebags and a rigid and waterproof rear trunk, this Indian can carry nearly 143 liters of food and supplies. Best of all? "Everything can be locked from a distance for added security and comfort", can boast its designers.
As on Harley-Davidson and some Ducati, the rider also benefits from a keyless starting system – common to all Medina machines -: "with the Indian Chieftain keyring in your pocket, get on the bike, push the button and ride. If you forgot the key fob, use the individual security code that you saved during programming", we specify on the official website.
The Roadmaster’s windshield also stands out from the benchmarks on the market. Called "Horizon", it is electrically adjustable and should thus allow small, medium and large drivers to limit as much as possible turbulence, whistling or thrust phenomena in the back.
The Roadmaster also comes standard with a list of handy equipment that Indian lists: "ABS, electronic speed control, heated genuine leather saddle with individual rider / passenger adjustment, heated grips with ten temperature settings (!), Adjustable passenger footrests, LED lights, three 12V power ports, Bluetooth connection for hands-free kit and music", etc.
"We look forward to sharing the launch of the 2015 Indian Roadmaster and other Indian Motorcycle novelties with the global motorcycle community at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally on August 2 in Sturgis.", confides Mister Menneto.
It will take a month to see it land on our continent for the annual European Bike Week, organized in Faaker See in Austria, from September 2 to 7. The arrival in concessions is scheduled for the end of the year..
On the official website, Americans are already offered the Roadmaster in three different colors, starting at $ 26,999. The French can therefore count on a price close to 34 199 € … The price of luxury Touring with Indian sauce !
