New 2019 KTM 1290 Superduke R and 1290 Superduke GT are in Cologne
The KTM 1290 Super Duke R offers new colors for 2019, as well as minor upgrades on its stormy 1301 cc twin-cylinder. The 1290 Super Duke GT, sport-road version of the "Beast", also takes the opportunity to get a makeover (?) And to introduce new features.
The main novelty for 2019 at KTM, the, will be unveiled at the unmissable EICMA show in Milan (Italy), which does not prevent the manufacturer from honoring the motorcycle show "next to" its Austrian headquarters: the Intermot of Cologne (Germany), which started the day before the Paris.

The Orange brand has thus revealed the 2019 versions of its and on the other side of the Rhine. The "bestial" KTM roadster receives "revised" resonance chambers and new mapping to optimize the performance of its incredible 1.3-liter V-Twin developing 177 horsepower !
The 2019 1290 Super Duke R also receives a wider and lowered handlebars as well as new colors on a black or white background. The rest is the same as 2018: reinforced tubular chassis, WP suspensions, Brembo brakes, TFT screen, traction control and angle sensitive ABS. As an option, a double-acting shifter facilitates gear change.
Its price should remain in the same range as in 2018, around 17,000 euros..
1290 Super Duke GT
These few modifications are adopted on the 2019 1290 Super Duke GT, which offers a very, very muscular interpretation of the "sport-road" genre based on the Super Duke R. Chassis and engine are practically identical between the roadster and the road sharpener, whose front part is redesigned for 2019.
The 2019 1290 Super Duke GT gets the LED headlight common to much of KTM’s motorcycle lineup, while its tank scoops are slimmed down and – again – sharp. The result is, how to say … quite spectacular and leaves no room for curves! It’s lively, billhooked, almost intimidating…
Its LC8 twin-cylinder – around 141 Nm of torque! – is enriched as standard with a bidirectional shifter (to lower gears without disengaging) and a new "Track" mode which allows you to refine the settings of its ABS and its traction control sensitive to the angle, its driving modes or its electronic suspensions.
Another improvement: the new 1290 Super Duke GT is equipped in 2019 with 6.5-inch TFT matrix instrumentation, which can be connected to a smartphone with the KTM My Ride app. This very readable and complete dashboard is controlled from the handlebars, via a backlit switch: the kind of attention to which you quickly get a taste !
The windshield also benefits from an improved and simplified adjustment mechanism, which is not a luxury given the difficulty of raising or lowering the previous one, as we had regretted MNC during on the Motorcycle Journal of the Net! The manufacturer also meets other expectations by installing two small storage compartments in the fairings returns, one of which has a USB socket..
Positioned as a high-performance and high-end motorcycle (18,590 euros in 2018), the Pressed Orange further enriches its endowment with heated grips now standard. It also renews its adaptive lighting, made up of rows of LEDs in its scoops that light up gradually on the corner..
Visible in Cologne … but not in Paris !
Currently unveiled at Intermot, the 1290 Super Duke R and 1290 Super Duke GT – available in black or white – are unfortunately not visible on the KTM stand in Paris, which only presents the … 2018 range..
Asked by MNC, the staff of the Austrian manufacturer confirms that the 2019 vintages will not make the trip to France, although the length of the Parisian show (13 days!) Could have given hope for a possible recovery of these new Super Duke in the second week..
French visitors will therefore have to make do with the older versions of the 1290 Super Duke R and 1290 Super Duke GT, at the risk of feeling some form of frustration….
