BMW C1-E scooter: the electric successor of the C1 ?
Presented as a study with no planned commercialization, the BMW C1-E explores two interesting concepts: electric propulsion and a high level of safety. A solution of the future for city dwellers concerned with protection and so-called clean energies ?
After the commercial failure of its C1 bodied scooter in the early 2000s (read), BMW has always remained cautious and measured when it comes to its involvement in the urban vehicle segment….
However, reserved does not mean disinterested: several rumors indicate the more or less imminent arrival of a maxi-scooter ‘in the range of the German manufacturer but more concretely, the discovery of the C1-E in the boxes shows that BMW follows the case very closely !
A realistic interpretation of what could be the urban two-wheeler of the future according to BMW, the C1-E is a prototype using the recipes of the C1 (safety cell around the driver, seat belt dispensing with the wearing of a helmet) by adding a good pinch of aesthetic fluidity and especially an electric motor driven by a lithium-ion battery designed from components developed by the American Vectrix.
Arguing that the choice of this engine "is perfectly suited to the demands of city traffic", BMW has however provided for the possibility of equipping this C1-E"a low-emission combustion engine", in order to meet the higher mileage requirements of urban" commuters ".
Created as a concept that can remain a unique model "because it is not planned to launch in series for the moment", specifies BMW, the C1-E’s main objective is to store knowledge that can be reused in the future and above all to explore avenues for the future within the European project (European Safer Urban Motorcycling, a cooperation project between the main European cities acquired for the use of motorized two-wheelers and certain manufacturers).
BMW is showing the greatest caution with this prototype … which is nevertheless rolling and whose degree of completion leaves you wondering: equipped with mirrors, indicators, a number plate, a trunk, headlights, an on-board console and a side stand, the C1-E is not a salon concept and even seems ready to land in concession tomorrow morning !
Still, the lack of encouragement from the public authorities towards safer and more ecological two-wheelers, as well as the mixed reception of the C1 125 and 200 should not really participate in convincing BMW to market this ultra-protective electric scooter. … Unless the German manufacturer awaits the opinion of Site readers to decide? Case to follow … Stay connected !
