2019 Hayabusa Turbo: Suzuki ready to strike back Kawasaki ?
Dominated by Kawasaki with its ZZR1400 and Ninja H2 / R, Suzuki is said to be on the verge of retaliation: a rumor is currently spinning well – at very high speed – on the web regarding an upcoming supercharged Hayabusa… Site questioned Suzuki France.
Our American colleagues are convinced of this, ready to cut their hand in the fire: "our sources at Suzuki have confirmed that the Japanese manufacturer will launch a turbocharged Hayabusa as an anticipated model of its 2019 range" … Kampai !?
Expected for the summer of 2018, this new sports car would try to regain the ascendancy on the segment of “Very High Speed” motorcycles dominated in recent years by Kawasaki (see our table below). It would also be timely to celebrate the 20 years of the famous mechanical "Peregrine Falcon" which has passed at .
Deeply, the Hayabusa 1300 1340 suffered only a slight loss which did not allow it to take over the reins of the category. This segment suffers like the Superbike and Supersport, but has nevertheless remained in France at around 2,500 units over the past three years (with a jump in 2016 due to the entry into force of the Euro4 standard).
If the BMW K1300S and the Honda VFR1200F have not been renewed (read our), the Kawasaki continues its career at the top of sales. Last year, the "Zed-zed" was even joined by the breathtaking and compressed, coupled with a sulphurous: 310 hp and almost as many decibels !
Braver than the Yellows of Hamamatsu on this point, the Greens of Akashi – who deserted MotoGP to crush WorldSBK, boo – are to date the only ones to brave the prevailing political correctness, to dare "inflated mechanical solutions" ", to offend the sensitivity of aesthetes and to taunt the radars of road repression…
Suzuki will he react by leaving – finally! – a supercharged engine machine? The readers of MNC – who, as everyone knows, have a little more memory than the others – remember that the marketing and communication manager of the brand in France assured us that this project was not abandoned: "we are working on it. ‘hard, but the Recursion will indeed not be part of our 2016 novelties ".
The concept of small sports car and its supercharged twin, with a displacement of around 600 cc, a maximum power of 100 hp and a maximum torque of 100 Nm (!) Were not released in 2017 either. Like Kawa, would Suz prefer to introduce the Turbo into his motorcycle range via a more devastating model in terms of performance and with an evocative name? Nothing is less sure…
Suzuki should "put the turbo" … but not on the power
Site again questioned the main stakeholders: "rumors have the advantage of making people talk! But as with promises, that only engages those who believe in them", notes Julien Garcia, marketing and communication manager of the subsidiary. french.
"What is nice is to see this enthusiasm around the Hayabusa which remains a legendary motorcycle and which cannot evolve without remaining a reference!", He rejoices before coming back to the concept of the Recursion for us. and Turbo engine…
"Suzuki always wants to introduce technology to develop its ranges, on condition that this brings real added value", underlines our interlocutor. "Through the Recursion concept, Suzuki tried to demonstrate that the Turbo could offer real arguments in terms of lightness, consumption and optimization of the weight / power ratio. In this project, we are not in the race for power, because today it’s not the only thing bikers are looking for ".
From Suzuki’s point of view, it would be more interesting to put the package – the Turbo ?! – on more buoyant segments, starting with those of medium-displacement roadsters that Yamaha and Kawasaki dominate with their MT and Z…
Regarding the Hayabusa, Suzuki France is delighted that there remains "a true heart of enthusiasts and we hope that one day we will be able to see a new generation of road hawks again: there is indeed a market for" big road cars. "and Suzuki has the capacity to innovate in the segment! But to date, we have no more information and even less date!"
Will we soon see Sylvain Guintoli (Suzuki rider in British Superbike this year) rocketing at 410 km / h on the handlebars of a Hayabusa Turbo on the Millau bridge, thus breaking the record of the Turkish champion of World Supersport on the Osman Gazi bridge? ? Answer to follow on MNC: stay connected !
