Bright weather conditions allowed MotoGP riders to exploit the full potential of their powerful prototypes on the demanding Spielberg track! Second behind his teammate last year, Andrea Dovizioso got his revenge at the 2017 Austrian Grand Prix, but not without a fight until the last corner…

For this Austrian race, contested in ideal weather conditions, the two Ducati riders, Dovizioso and Lorenzo, are betting on the soft rear tire. Vinales and Rossi on the contrary put on a hard tire on their Yamaha … like Marquez who starts from pole with his Honda !

Zarco stands out, as often, by selecting a "soft" tire at the rear … as at the front, while most of the drivers on the grid have chosen the medium tire! Crutchlow also stands out by choosing a pair of hard tires.

Departure : Danilo Petrucci shines when the red lights go out: his Ducati rears up violently in the middle of the second row! Marquez, on the contrary, took off perfectly from his pole position and achieved an unstoppable "holeshot". Also off to a good start, Jorge Lorenzo however turns in the lead in the break to the left leading to the second turn.

While Andrea Dovizioso stumbles on Marc Marquez, his compatriot Valentino Rossi very quickly climbs to fourth position! The famous n ° 46 was then ahead of Dani Pedrosa, Maverick Vinales, Johann Zarco, Andrea Iannone, Loris Baz, Jonas Folger, etc..

Jorge fled alone in the lead on the first lap while Marc held on to Andrea (D), himself chased by the two official Yamaha. Dani and Johann spit in the gloves and hang on, unlike Andrea (I) who gradually loses contact.

Jostled at the start, Pol Espargaro had to return to the pit at the end of the second lap. The KTM clan and much of the public are upset. A lap later, Folger in turn gives up … German supporters – and French fans of Tech3 – are in turn disappointed.

On the track, Rossi and Vinales provide a magnificent spectacle. But the Spaniard cracked on the enormous braking at the end of the pit straight and momentarily left the track. He quickly regained it but lost two places: Zarco and Pedrosa (in that order) passed in front.

Rid of his bulky teammate, Valentino Rossi can concentrate on the leading men: Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez join Jorge Lorenzo … Petrucci returns to the pits and gets off his motorcycle. This is the third retirement of the race … and there are still 22 laps to go !

One lap later, Dovi took advantage of Marquez’s slight gap in the second hairpin of the circuit to steal his second position! Rossi finds himself in the aspiration of the leader of the championship … But a certain Zarco places himself in the rear wheel of the nine-time world champion. Mamma mia !

As if that weren’t enough, Pedrosa gradually picked up the leading group and was only a few lengths ahead of Vinales! A big second ahead of Maverick, Marc recovers "his" second place following a small gap from Andrea. The Spaniard immediately fits into Jorge’s wheel … which slips under acceleration.

Lorenzo, Marquez and Dovizioso tackle the braking of turn 3 head-on! The n ° 04 Ducati took the lead but the n ° 93 Honda came out better and took control of the race, 16 laps from the end. Just behind, Pedrosa then Zarco pass Rossi! The Italian finds himself at the mercy of Vinales…

Under pressure, the n ° 46 went off the track at the first corner, exactly like his teammate n ° 25 at the start of the race. Maverick took the opportunity to take sixth place, several lengths from Zarco. Our second compatriot Loris Baz occupies a magnificent 8th place, ahead of Bautista.

At the head of the race, Marquez and Dovizioso moved away from Lorenzo and Pedrosa. The mid-race course has just been passed and we are heading for a duel for victory between the leaders of the world championship: as a reminder, Marc has 21 points more than Andrea…

Their teammates are vying for the third step of the Austrian podium. With 11 laps remaining, Pedrosa placed himself in Lorenzo’s aspiration at the exit of the last corner and passed his devilish opponent in front of the pits. Zarco gradually loses grip, but remains ahead of the two official M1s.

Marquez in turn widens in the first corner and cedes the reins of the race to Dovizioso. Pedrosa quickly distances Lorenzo and now targets his teammate who returns to the lead in the left double in the middle of the course. Bautista doubles Baz, Miller falls and gives up.

The battle between Dovizioso and Marquez intensifies with 7 laps from the end, which makes it easier to climb Pedrosa! The n ° 26 Honda nevertheless lost several lengths in the following loop, while his teammate n ° 93 seemed to want to calm things down: apparently at ease behind his runner-up, the world champion was patient..

In the background, Zarco climbs slowly, but surely, on Lorenzo. The two-time Moto2 champion is followed by Vinales … but not by Rossi who is riding a short distance from his young Yamaha colleagues. Bautista, Baz and Kallio (!) Complete the Top 10.

Marquez loops the penultimate turn in Dovizioso’s wheel but (cannot?) Trigger (r) any attacks. The n ° 93 waits for the last portion of the circuit to destabilize the n ° 04: outside the Italian at the exit of the penultimate turn, the Spaniard dives inside in the last but widens

Pushed to the limit by the HRC rider, the official Ducati rider has only to wring the right grip of his Desmosedici to win his third victory this season … and above all, his fabulous duel at the top of Spielberg! Pedrosa reaches the finish line much more calmly in third position.

Jorge Lorenzo finished in a very satisfactory fourth place, especially since the n ° 99 was ahead of three Yamaha! On his M1 n ° 5, Johann Zarco-corico (!) Is ahead of Maverick Vinales n ° 25 and Valentino Rossi n ° 46. The two factory drivers lose a few more points in the championship…

The overall MotoGP 2017 standings are still dominated by Marquez, but his lead over Dovizioso is now reduced to 16 points (174 points to 158). Vinales and Rossi are respectively 24 and 33 lengths behind the leader and are caught by Pedrosa !

Zarco (99 points) and Lorenzo (79) made an excellent operation in the championship, taking advantage of the retirement of Folger and the disappointing 15th place of Cructhlow. Baz scores seven important points for his 2017 season … and decisive for the 2018 season? To follow on the Site: stay connected !
