The government has decided to increase the size of the new license plates for motorized two-wheelers from July 1, 2012, in accordance with what was announced by the IRB on May 11, 2011 (read our).
“Today, four models of plates can be mounted on motorized two-wheelers (170×130 mm, 210×130 mm, 170×140 mm and 210×140 mm). As of July 1, 2012, registration plates of 180×200 mm will be released on the market. , the same size as those newly introduced in Germany (which were reduced in April 2011, Editor’s note) ", announced this morning in Paris the Minister of the Interior Claude Gueant and the interministerial delegate for road safety Jean-Luc Nevache.
18×20 cm for motorcycles and scooters registered from July 1, 2012
All license plates installed from July 1, 2012 must therefore respect these dimensions of 180×200 mm, under penalty of a fine of 135 euros instead of 68 (read in particular).
According to the interministerial delegate for road safety questioned by Site, "a decree will be published in the coming weeks" to specify the modalities of application of this decision, which will also allow to wait for them to be approved by the Technical Union automotive, motorcycle and cycle (UTAC).
The better to flash you, my child
"This is a measure of equal treatment between road users", justifies the government, because "the effectiveness of automated road controls which fight against speeding is conditioned by the correct reading of the license plates. ‘registration, which is not always the case now ".
Working group on queuing |
The Council of Ministers meeting yesterday at the Elysee Palace also decided to constitute "soon" a working group "in order to carry out an analysis of the practice of queuing up recently authorized in Belgium" (read in particular and).
According to Claude Gueant interviewed this morning by Site, this working group chaired by the prefect Regis Guyot should make its first conclusions "within three to four months". In the meantime, the Minister of the Interior assured us that he was "not against a modification of the legislation on this subject" – which, let us remember, is a practice inherent in the practice of motorized two-wheelers in city … To be continued on Site: stay connected ! |
According to our information, it is not planned to oblige the owners of motorcycles equipped with the current plate (or the old one with the number of the department) to change plate. A motorcycle registered before July 1, 2012 will therefore be able to keep its current plate for life … provided it does not break, because the stock of old plates will be gradually replaced by the new ones. !
The government has also drawn up its provisional road safety report, which shows a drop of 22 fatalities in 2011 (3,970 compared to 3,992 in 2010). "This decrease in road mortality was particularly marked for children (-11% of deaths among those under 18) and for moped users (-16%)", notes the Ministry of the Interior.
In total, deaths among motorized two-wheelers represent "a quarter (24.7%) of those killed on the roads". And "if users of light vehicles (-2%) and bicycles (-7%) have also benefited, the situation of motorcyclists has again clearly deteriorated (+ 10%, with 772 people killed in this category) after a year 2010 which had been much more favorable to them ". About 80 more deaths … out of nearly 3 million users of motorized two-wheelers !
